I will tell you why I cry

Even kneeling before the sacred light

Even chanting the sacred verse

Even filled with the sacred love

My heart rejoicing in blissful rapture

At the glory of my Lord

I will tell you why I cry

Why my eyes turn to fountains

Why my cheeks become waterfalls

Even as I praise the Lord

For blessing me with so much joy

For keeping me so safe and sound

For leading me unto His light

For making me one who believes

I will tell you why I cry

Why pain daily dances on my face

Why my smiles refuse to shine

Why my heart is full of sand

Even when I feel so blessed

Even when my spirit laughs

At the follies of this world

I will tell you why I cry

Because the one I thought I knew

Is not the one I think I know

Because the friend I thought I had

Is not the friend I think I have

Because the one I thought different

Seems not so different after all

Seems the same as all the others

Who see the forest for the trees!
