Mawdo Galleh,

Hmmmmmmmm....what? You will tell us why you cry. ok. For a minute, let us back it off. I was just telling sister Fatou how things can happen by coincidence. For whatever reason, I was on my computer yesterday writing a poem...i titled it, "The Loud Cry of the friendly old Woman." In it, I tried to reflect on our friendly mother -The Gambia, woman of grace. Of late, she has been raped, persecuted, exploited, and all you couldn't fit in your mind. As soon as i saw yours today, i bend down in shyness, in recognition of why we cry, mourn and bleed with our hearts -knowing that the hearts are really bleeding. Furiously! It owes itself to disappointment causing the dry years of dripping tears.

Congrats on this and the prior poem -both are trailblazer poems. The tone of this one like I shared with Sister Fatou resonates with Maya's bashing, "The rock cries...."

I thought "Wisdom House Ablaze" complements your effort as well, whether yours was just a routine lesson delivered, or just born out of life experience. Keep them coming..............I am still thirsty for more.

thanks, & Kind regards,

yj

Baba,

Very sincere thanks for this deeply perceptive peom. I am not adept to interpreting peotry but i feel a sense of melancholy about many things after having the privilege of reading this beautiful peom of yours. Thanks once again and keep that pen of yours rolling. Now i have an idea why i cry.

Mboge

I will tell you why I cry
Even kneeling before the sacred light
Even chanting the sacred verse
Even filled with the sacred love
My heart rejoicing in blissful rapture
At the glory of my Lord
I will tell you why I cry
Why my eyes turn to fountains
Why my cheeks become waterfalls
Even as I praise the Lord
For blessing me with so much joy
For keeping me so safe and sound
For leading me unto His light
For making me one who believes
I will tell you why I cry
Why pain daily dances on my face
Why my smiles refuse to shine
Why my heart is full of sand
Even when I feel so blessed
Even when my spirit laughs
At the follies of this world
I will tell you why I cry
Because the one I thought I knew
Is not the one I think I know
Because the friend I thought I had
Is not the friend I think I have
Because the one I thought different
Seems not so different after all
Seems the same as all the others
Who see the forest for the trees!
