My name is Jason Carter and I'm running in a special election for the open seat in Georgia Senate District 42. I have spent my life working to engage people in their communites and to bring new people into the political process.  I have organized and participated in service projects that address poverty, strengthen families and improve education.  My wife and I are raising our family in this community, and we are committed to making it the best place that it can be. 

These are tough times for our community, for our state and for our nation.  In order to have a healthy economy, and a strong state, I believe that we must renew our focus on the issues that impact the daily lives of our families and the health of our businesses.  At this crucial time, I will bring renewed energy and a progressive vision to the State Senate.  Please join me in working to move our state forward. Perdue sets special election for Senate seat

ATLANTA (AP) - Gov. Sonny Perdue has set May 11 for a special election to fill a state Senate seat representing part of DeKalb County.
The seat is being vacated by David Adelman, a Democrat tapped by President Barack Obama as U.S. ambassador to Singapore.
Among the candidates running to replace Adelman is Jason Carter, grandson of former President Jimmy Carter.
The younger Carter is making his first bid for elected office.
