It is unfortunate that one of the local papers did even accuse the Gambian opposition as toothless bulldogs even though some of the problems they have highlighted had already been solved not only by the opposition but the combination of opposition and ruling party. Political leadership requires taking the right steps at the right time. It is not an attempt to play to the gallery at all times to earn cheap popularity. It means solving simple problems in a simple way and complex problems in a more sophisticated way. Struggling to expand the democratic space for each party to exercise its right without hindrance is the collective endeavour of the whole population, irrespective of party affiliation. Foroyaa hopes that more non partisan groups and individuals would assume the role of mediators to facilitate dispute resolutions.
