Quote of the Day!

"History teaches us that when you have problems that others had before you, you look at the ways and means that they took to solve their problems. You may learn and gain from their experiences to solve your or similar problems. This means you internationalize your problems through constant organization and seek allies. Thanks, keep up the momentum ....the Struggle Continues !!!" Uncle sainey.

Uncle Sainey,

I am still yearning for a bride from you, so the Uncle title remains despite being a Serer. (Laugh out loud)

Okay, humor aside, the above is well said. I humbly join you to echo the same sentiments. It looks like we are all headed for DC. See you all there! Gainako staffers will be in full attendance, and we look forward to bringing the news to your doorstep.

On a different note, I am a fan of your column. On that, please enlighten me more on Haile Salessi. Over the years, I have struggled to understand what his true legacy was. I have had conflicting things. I have certain you know what is on his plate.

Thanks,

yj

GPU-USA to Organize Symposium at African Liberation Day Event!
The Gambia Press Union USA will be holding a symposium on Saturday May 29, 2010 during the Gambian-organized African Liberation Day (ALD) ceremony in Washington, DC.
The annual ALD event is a commemoration of Africa's liberation accomplishment against colonialism. In 1960 alone, 17 African countries gained independence from colonial rule. And in 1963, the leaders of 32 independent African countries met in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to launch the erstwhile Organization of African Unity (OAU). The African Freedom Day, first launched in Ghana in 1958, was renamed the African Liberation Day on May 25, 1963 during this important gathering of African leaders.
The GPU-sponsored symposium will cover such topics as, the role of the media and the survival of journalists in hostile environments, the Arizona immigration law and how it affects Gambians and other immigrant communities, the role of the military in security and democratic development in The Gambia. Other panelists will include Gambian authors who are expected to present their work and participate in a book signing ceremony.
The goal of the event is to present a diverse panel to discuss a range of issues affecting The Gambia and Gambians. We are also looking forward to invite representatives and or supporters of the Gambian Government to take part in the discussion.
It is GPU-USA’s desire to create an environment conducive to a dialogue involving media personnel, civic groups and individual citizens. We believe that by increasing the level of dialogue, this will create more understanding and present an opportunity for citizens to work together on common grounds.
If you are in the Washington DC area attending the African Liberation Day, please stop by for this interactive event and be a part of the discussion. For questions, please email us at [log in to unmask]
