UNESCO –NATCOM Executive Director Charged

The Executive Director of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation {UNESCO} Madam Sukai Mbye Bojang was on Wednesday the 2nd of June arraigned before the principal magistrate Emmanuel Nkea of Banjul magistrates’ court.
The statement of offence states that stealing by Directors of Companies contrary to section 259 of the Criminal code Cap 10 volume III laws of the Gambia 1990.
 
The particulars of offence of the aforesaid person states that Sukai Mbye Bojang sometime in the year 2001 to 2006, being employed as the executive Director of UNESCO {NATCOM} in the republic of The Gambia, stole an amount of one hundred and seventy three thousand Five hundred and seventy one dalasis and twenty three butut {173,571.23}being the property of the said organisation thereby committed an offence. The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge.
 
The prosecution told the court that they would like to apply for an adjournment and the defence counsel Ozumac said he would like to apply for a bail for the accused due to the health condition of his client whom he said is an ulcer patient. The presiding magistrate ruled that he has heard on both sides and the accused person he said is a patient. He therefore granted the accused person bail in the sum of three hundred thousand dalasi {300,000} with two Gambian sureties one of whom should have a landed property. The case was adjourned to the 17th of June for further hearing. Inspector Keita appeared for the State
