Sad Joy - A Poem
By Baba Galleh Jallow
See how lofty thoughts
Bring tears to the eyes
And sweeps away the clouds of gloom
Like smoke before a fiery wind
Anger dissolves
Before the cool breeze of elusive reason
Leaden thoughs melt
At the tender touch of reflection
That sets the mind's eye
Upon the noble heights of human piety.
See how the liberated mind
Surfs above the waves of dark passion
See how it floats
On the wings of tender mercy
Rocks shed tears
At the beauty of human oneness
Rage turns to love
When the spirit feels the agony
Of kindred spirits
Weak and mortal beings all
Forced to share the air they breath.
What sad joy!
