Hon.Sanneh Phones Foroyaa to Query Remarks Made During Presidential Tour

The Minority leader phoned Foroyaa to request for an exclusive interview to respond to remarks made against him during the tour of the President. Even though Foroyaa did not publish the remarks of the President it is considered fair to publish the views of Sidia Jatta , the NADD National Assembly Member for Wuli West and Momodou Sanneh, the Minority leader and UDP Member for Kiang West to balance the remarks made over the National Radio and Television.

The Minority leader indicated that the Gambia is a multiparty democracy and as such parties have right to seek the mandate of the people and the people also have the right to vote for the candidate of their choice and under the party ticket of their choice.

The Minority leader indicated that the action of their head chief Demba Sanyang was uncalled for in a multiparty system. He said in his welcoming address, the head chief removed his hat and said to the president that on behalf of the people of the two Kiangs ( Kiang West and Kiang central), he is apologizing to the president for not voting for him in the last Presidential election and Parliamentary Election. He said as a National Assembly Member of the area, he wishes to put it on record that the people of Kiang owe no apology to the president for rejecting the APRC candidates and electing the people of their choice under the party ticket of their choice. He said come 2011, the people of Kiang will do the same if not more.

Responding further to the remarks made during the Nioro Jataba meeting, the minority leader indicated that the president stated that he will not develop the feeder roads in Kiang unless and until they vote for him. The minority leader indicated that such a statement was uncalled for precisely because after the election, the president took oath to defend the Constitution of the Republic without fear or favour. Hon. Sanneh noted that that very Constitution bars discrimination in term of political affiliation.

He said all the development taking place in the country are either loans or grants which are ratified by the National Assembly after both opposition and ruling parties National Assembly members took part in the debate and agree upon them. The loans he said are paid back by the Gambian people through their tax money regardless of political affiliation.

On feeder roads development, Hon Sanneh indicated that kiang lacks feeder roads development not because they are opposition. He said if one goes to URR, CRR, and NBR where the sitting National Assembly members are APRC they too lack proper feeder roads.

He farther reacted to the statement that he indicated during the National Assembly election that if he is elected he will develop the feeder roads in kiang. He said that such a statement is incorrect. The minority leader indicated that what he told the electorate was that if they put him in office he will make sure that he will be their mouth piece at the national Assembly and will always raise the condition of the feeder roads. He pointed out that even in the last parliamentary sitting; he posed a question pertaining to the roads.
