THEFT CHARGES AGAINST HON. SEEDY S.K. NJIE WITHDRAWN

The three count charges of theft case against Hon. Seedy S.K. Njie, a nominated member of the National Assembly was on Thursday withdrawn before Magistrate Hillary Abeke of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court. 
When the case was called, the accused was not in court. However, Inspector Keita told the court that relying on section 68 sub section {1} of the Criminal Procedure Code he is withdrawing the case. He added that the stated section has indicated the powers of the prosecution in withdrawing cases before the court.
The trial magistrate noted that the accused person is absent in court but had ruled that the case file number 89/2010 against the nominated National Assembly Member is hereby withdrawn and that the accused person is accordingly discharged.
Readers could recall that Hon. Seedy SK Njie was on Monday, 9th August, arraigned before Magistrate Abeke of Banjul Magistrates’ court charged with three counts of theft, contrary to section 257 of the Criminal Code Cap 10 volume III Laws of The Gambia 1990.
