A question to Halifa
"Don’t get me wrong here. I thought you are in the wrong business. You should be a rock star. You
are so popular. The times I’ve spent with you in the streets of Gambia, and in courts 2007, the
respect, the flagging hellos, the respect the respect and the respect. The respect Gambians have
for you is phenomenal and I think this cuts across tribes, cultures and parties, but at the same time
Gambians do not vote for you at all. Voter apathy put aside and misperceptions about PDOIS,
those who go to the polls do not vote for PDOIS at all. I mean significantly. UDP and NRP, both
newer than PDOIS do better. What will change that? What is PDOIS’s disconnect here with the
Gambian voters?" Fatou Jaw Manneh of Manfanta

among other answers...
"Those who supported PDOIS but did not want the old ruling party to come back to power decided
to abandon PDOIS for the APRC. Those who supported PDOIS but wanted the new ruling party to
be removed decided to abandon PDOIS for the coalition between the old ruling party and old
opposition. This is the political reality PDOIS had to confront madam.
I hope you will be fair not to compare us with parties whose support are ethno- linguistically based. If either Sidia or my humble self
were to fall so low as to break ties with PDOIS and proceeded  to mobilise voters on the basis of the ethno -linguistic groups we could be associated with, I do not think any party so base would be able to have more votes than we do." Halifa Sallah
