An elderly man who fainted near the Sandika Market mentioned the name of a member of the Editorial Board of Foroyaa as his helper. The people in the neighbourhood took care of him, provided him with clothes, counted his money and put it in a nylon bag and took him to the Serrekunda Health Centre for treatment. The member of the editorial board was called to visit the old man to find out how to transport him to the emergency unit of the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital.

Foroyaa gathered that when the member of the editorial board arrived at the Serrekunda Health Centre he found the personnel working under a very congested environment without water or electricity. An elderly man who is an asthmatic patient was gasping without any relief since the machine which should have helped him to regulate his breathing could not operate because of the lack of electricity. The share number of people who were waiting in a poorly ventilated environment without any fan operating to reduce the heat made matters worse for people with respiratory problems. The old man could not get proper air and everyone was sweating profusely. It was very clear that all those with reduced immunities could easily get secondary infections from the congested environment.

The situation appeared very pathetic and needs urgent attention. How on earth could any health centre be left without an emergency source of electricity and water supply. A generator and emergency water tank are urgently needed at Serrekunda Health Centre and Foroyaa will be giving free space to campaign for the provision of such facilities as soon as possible if the authorities fail to take charge of their responsibility.
