Obituary Announcement

"Those who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return." Sura Al-Baqarah: 156.

It is with the most profound sadness that the Manjang family of Yundum woke up to the devastating news of the loss of a much loved and cherished daughter, sister, mother, aunt, niece, cousin: Ms Awa Manjang. This sad event occurred in the early hours of Saturday 23rd October 2010 and was laid to rest at 14:00 yesterday in Yundum.

Awa's death is yet another terrible blow to a family who have lost three of it's members in the last 15 months: In the summer of last year, Awa lost her younger brother Saul Manjang and in February this year she lost her dear father, Alhaji Edrissa Manjang.

Awa is survived by two sons and a large extended family spread across West Africa, Europe and North America.

May Allah have mercy on her and all others who have departed this world for the next and raise them up with the Prophets.

Related Note: This has been a particularly devastating day for Awa's older brother – Ousman Manjang of Atlanta, who did not only had to deal with the news of losing his immediate younger sister but also the loss of his long-time best friend, Mr. Bano Jallow.

Ousman and Bano have been best of friends for over three decades. Losing two most loved ones is nothing imaginable in this nature. He was also laid to rest at 17:00hrs in Lamin.

Mam Bano originated from Sifoe Village, lived in the town of Kombo Lamin and worked at Gambia Airways for the last 30 years.  He is survived by his; Awa Bah of The Gambia Police and their children.

May Allah have mercy on Bano and Awa, and give their families and friends the strength to move on and coop with such a loss.
