Bro Che,

It would be interesting indeed, if the story is true. If it is not, it would an exercise in supreme journalistic irresponsibility on the part of this Senegalese website. However, I am not in agreement with you that our dear leader is all for reconciliation. There is too much evidence suggesting just the opposite. See Bro, the problem with our dear leader is that he is holding our dear country hostage by insisting on staying indefinitely in power, in total contradiction of his solemn promises to us back in 1994. Remember that one of his chief rationales for kicking Jawara out was that he stayed too long in power? Remember his solemn repeated declarations - which are on record, audio and print - that even ten years is too long for one person to be president of The Gambia? Whatever has become of all those promises made by a man who prides himself in being a paragon of Islamic virtue? The good Fropessor may have done good things; he may even be a good leader in some respects. But he has no right - morally, ethically, politically - to impose one man rule on The Gambia by exploiting the advantages of incumbency because in the long run, that is a recipe for civil disorder in our dear country. He is propagating a culture of political abuse that he may be able to manage while he lasts, but that those coming after him may not manage as well as he does. I am not suggesting that the APRC itself should not stay in power; only that the good Fropessor needs to pass the baton on to some other APRC member to lead the country for a few more years. By the way, what happened to his recent solemn declaration that he would not seek re-election? Or was that another empty promise he made even while knowing that he won't keep it?

Happy New Year Bro and may the New Year infuse us all with the true spirit of critical self-reflection that will help us remove the self-imposed blinders and give us the moral courage and honesty to bravely glare at the troubling reality of our political situation.

Baba,
That will be very interesting indeed... It is a possibility and could be beneficial reconciliation. Remember, OUR DEAR LEADER is all for reconciliation. That is why Jawara came back
