Folks

These Parliamentarians deserve some medical treatment from Campama Mental Hospital  for  wrongly apologising to the President. According to the Gambia's Constitution, the National Assembly is supreme and runs independent. It does not owe President Jammeh an apology for doing a job which they consider to be legitimate. Secondly, President should stop interfering into the activities of the National Assembly.

Assembly Speaker apologises to President Jammeh following its handling of GNOC affairs
Thursday, February 03, 2011

The Speaker of the National Assembly has written to President Yahya Jammeh expressing his regret over the way and manner the Assembly handled the report of the Gambia National Olympic Committee GNOC/National Assembly Select Committee on Youth and Sports.

Speaker Bojang’s move came barely a week after the National Assembly summoned and reprimanded the Minister of Youth and Sports, his Permanent Secretary and the Executive Secretary of the National Sports Council for their alleged roles in a letter challenging the decision of the Assembly on the much-talked about and highly-anticipated GNOC presidential elections slated for 12th February.

The Speaker, according to news monitored on GRTS radio, said it was with a deep sense of remorse and sincere regret that he wrote, on behalf of both sides of the National Assembly and on his own behalf, to convey their unreserved apologies to the President and leader of the APRC party.

“We sincerely regret that our course of action and the way and manner we handled the GNOC/National Assembly Select Committee on Youth and Sports report is a cause for concern and regret to President Jammeh,” the letter said, adding that this was not and can never be their object, for they consider themselves the President’s constituency in the Republic.

Speaker Bojang assured President Jammeh of what he referred to as “the sincere and legitimate goodwill and goals of parliament”, and thanked him for telling them his mind as their leader and President.
