Justice Awa Bah of the High Court in Banjul yesterday granted bail to Assan Touray of Pristine Consulting Company requiring that D10 million (ten million dalasis) be deposited at a reputable bank.
He was also to provide two Gambian sureties each with a title deed within the Greater Banjul Area of the value of D10 million.

Justice Bah in her ruling read the submissions made by both sides, and noted that the applicant was granted bail before, but it was revoked.

She added that the offence under which the accused was charged is bailable, noting that granting bail lies in the discretion of the court.

She said she was of the view that the accused person was entitled to bail and subsequently granted him bail on the above conditions.

Assan Touray was arraigned alongside with Pristine Consulting Company and Abdourahman Touray CEO of the company charged with two counts of economic crimes, one count of conspiracy and one count of theft.

According to the charge sheet on count one, the accused persons, between 20 April 2009 and 10 March 2011, being the persons engaged in the processing of the Biometric ID card and production of other official documents sold and intentionally withheld the sum of twenty-seven million, six hundred and one thousand and ninety dalasi and thereby caused loss to the government.

Count two read that the accused persons, Pristine Consulting, Assan Touray and Abdourahman Touray, being the persons engaged by the Gambia government to produce and supply finger scanning machine and accessories, intentionally failed to produce and supply as required and thereby acted in a way detrimental to the economy of the Gambia.

Count three stated that between 20 April 2009 and March 2011, the accused persons conspired to defraud the public by printing and selling Gambian biometric ID Cards and driving licence, residential permit, all of which contain the biometric chip.

Count four stated that the accused persons, Pristine Consulting, Assan Touray and Abdourahman Touray, on 20 April 2009 received on behalf of the Government of The Gambia twenty-seven million, six hundred and one thousand and ninety dalasi.
