At least 83 women who formed the 4th batch patients of the infertility
treatment component of the President’s Alternative Treatment Programme
(PATP) Thursday afternoon turned out in Kanilai to begin the said treatment.

The infertility treatment component of PATP, like other components such as
HIV/AIDS, Asthma, Diabetes, amongst others, is being offered free to the
patients at the expense of the brainchild of the treatment, the Gambian
leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, who
initiated it as part of his continuous efforts of salvaging humanity from
the scourges of these complicated diseases.

This particular treatment in question, which involves drinking a cup of the
herbal medicine, has been described as the most complicated of the
treatments administered by the Gambian leader, due to some of the patients
being tied to supernatural beings like devils or jinns. The Gambian leader’s
infertility treatment has so far treated 3, 411 patients and produced at
least 1, 897 babies, and 320 miscarriages since the president started
it.When the Gambian leader was asked to comment on these successes during an
interview shortly after administering the patients, he thanked the Almighty
Allah underscoring that it was a very impressive record.

He said: “I thank the Almighty Allah for this because this is a very
impressive record as far as I know and the success rate is very high. And I
can say with confidence basing it in the trust of the Almighty Allah that
any woman who comes here, if the woman is not naturally barren; or have done
some surgical operations; or has not gone beyond the age of conceiving, she
will conceive. I am 100 percent certain about that. With the Almighty Allah,
my medication is fully proved.” When asked to comment on the significant
reduction or no-instances of patients in this treatment fainting or
collapsing during the process as happened in the initial treatments, the
president attributed it to the change of environment.

He explained: “Well, you will realise that this is the second batch to be
treated in Kanilai and since we started treating them in Kanilai, we don’t
have instance of people fainting or passing away because of the environment
or location. I don’t want to go into details but it is because of the
location that we don’t have instances of that.”

The Gambian leader maintained that if it were not for some logistical
problems, Kanilai will be the most ideal place to treat people with
infertility. He added: “And you will realise that the batch that was treated
here before this has the highest rate of delivery. The reason being is when
we do it in Banjul; they come, take the medicine and go home. But here they
live in a controlled environment and do not even have access to some of the
things that they are not supposed to use. So it becomes more effective as
well.”

The Gambian leader further asserted that infertility “is the most dangerous
treatment”, explaining that this is the reason why he must be around for the
treatment. He continued: “The other treatments like HIV/AIDS and others,
Ansu Jammeh and Dr Mbowe can carry them out without my presence. But this is
the most dangerous treatment because I think you might have seen on[GRTS] TV
what happened the other time. It is not an easy treatment and sometimes some
people come to challenge if you understand what I mean. Some people come
under the pretext that they have come for treatment and in fact Dr Mbowe
will remember that we expelled some people before the treatment started when
they came to Kanilai. This is the most dangerous treatment I am doing.”

Men
Further quizzed on whether the men who also sometimes develop problems of
infertility have been coming to this treatment in question, the Gambian
leader replied that they do not come to him directly, but prefer going to
clinic [PATP clinic] as they don’t want to be shown on the TV. “They go to
Dr Mbowe and Ansu and even Dr Mbowe will not tell me who is coming. But do
you know how I know that a lot of them go there – is the rate I supply the
medication because I give out the medication. Every now and then Ansu will
tell me that the medicine is finished. So they won’t come plainly. But the
men also come around,” the president added.

Speaking at the treatment site, the director general of the PATP, Dr Tamsir
Mbowe, dilated on the rules and regulations for this particular treatment as
required in any treatment. “In medicine under any treatment, there are laws
that must be followed. Under His Excellency’s infertility treatment for it
to be effective, there are certain food items that the patients should not
consume during the course of the treatment. That is anything that contains
café; like attaya, Nescafe, kola nut, alcohol, pork, pepper, and etc,” he
revealed.

Like President Jammeh, DG Mbowe also harped on the successes registered by
this treatment. He said: “In medicine if you are able to get 25-30 percent
outcome, it’s excellent news for any treatment. No treatment is 100 percent;
we must understand that. And for His Excellency’s treatment, we have more
than 75 percent success. So this is a real indication of the effectiveness
of the treatment. If you should compare this treatment with the latest
modern treatment [the IBF], which is only about 35-45 percent, we could
compare the two and finally know that that of His Excellency is more
effective. This is excellent news.”

Patients’ account
The patients who turned out for Thursday’s infertility treatment expressed
gratitude to President Jammeh for initiating a humanitarian treatment that
has since its’ inception yielded dividend, especially in cementing and
consolidating fruitful marriages, as well as saving lives in other
treatments. Most of these patients had gone through a string of difficulties
and had spent a lot of money trying other treatments, both conventional and
herbal, to no avail. Hence, they embraced the Gambian leader’s treatment,
which is being offered free. This was confirmed during the interview we had
with some patients taking the PATP infertility treatment.

Fatou Joof, Fatou Ceesay, Sirra Badgie, Aji Jarju all narrated how they
toured several places in search of a cure to get rid of their child
deadlock. While commending President Jammeh for this initiative, the women
expressed hope that the Gambian leader’s infertility treatment will end
their misery.

Background
It would be recalled that the PATP, initiated by President Jammeh as part of
his crusade of saving humanity from the scourge of complicated diseases,
started on 17 January 2007. Since the inception of the treatment programme,
thousands of patients have undergone different treatments as can be
testified by many. Most of these patients, some of them foreign nationals,
have now gone back to their various societies and are performing their
respective social responsibilities.
