UDP Rally In New York City

    Nyngle Nyassi - UDP
     By A New Yorker

Mr Syngle Nyassi, the national mobilizer of United Democratic Party (UDP) has said at a well attended town hall meeting in New York City on Sunday July 24th 2011 that the Gambian dictator Yaya Jammeh has monopolize the Gambian economy. "The transport industry, livestock, agriculture, butchery, petty trading and bakery are run by Yaya Jammeh" he said. He further stated that Yaya Jammeh is more interested in his personal business that running the affairs of the Gambian people. Yaya, he said betrayed Gambian farmers whose produce for the 2010 farming season are yet to be paid for. "Last tobaski, Yaya told Gambian people not to sell any ram for more than D5, 000.00. What he did was go to Mali and Mauritania bought rams, transport them to the country tax free and convert the state house into an abattoir." The poor farmers Nyassi went on bought their animals, pay taxes on them and rear them and now he is telling them how much to sell those animals.
Gambians he said are made virtual prisoners of conscience due to the policies of the Jammeh administration. This he said is evidence that you cannot express yourself. "Journalists are being persecuted day in day out for doing their job" he said. He further added that our religious leaders also have to be a town crier for Yaya Jammeh if they want to see peace.
For your information, he continued, Abuko Nature Reserved is now own by Kanilai Farm, ‘Tippa Garace' is owned by him, GPTC is out of business but Jammeh has his own transportation company.
The United Democratic Party he said since its inception on 23 August 1996 has been and will continue to be a party of peace, democracy and rule of law. The politics of tribalism is what APRC is always engaged in he said adding that this has put families apart and brought about mistrust amongst families across the country. Mr. Nyassi intimated that the APRC organized meeting in the middle of the night in the bush in Foni and tell the Jolas that they danced for Sir Dawda Jawara and now is time for them to rally behind their own tribe. Rhetorically asking where are the jola population in the Gambia? The jolas, he said are only concentrated in the fonis.
Mr. Nyassi also hinted that the news that is published about UDP supporters cross carpeting to the APRC are usually educated people who want to gain employment with the government. He stressed that those people should be very careful because Yaya Jammeh is a betrayer. "Where are those who used to take guns and say no UDP meeting in Foni? They are either death or in Mile Two Central prison.
On the question of a coalition, he said that is their hope and as am talking, there are discussions going on in the Gambia. He also made it clear that the Gambian constitution supports a simple majority.
On the recently concluded registration of voters, he said UDP had agents in all the registration centers across the country. He added that there were instances of foreigners from Cassamance trying to register but thanks to their well rounded agents, those people were denied the Voters card. He said a lot of youths have registered this year which is a good sign.
On preparation for this Year's presidential elections, Mr. Nyassi stressed that the women wing of the UDP are currently on a nation wide tour to sell the party's manifesto to the people in the grass root. He seized the opportunity to thank the U.K and U.S. chapter of UDP for funding the tour. He urged the Gambians in Diaspora to lend their party a financial helping hand. He said is hard for them to raise funds in the Gambia because private citizens are afraid to donate to his party for fear of a severe punishment from the government. He said they still faced with problems in getting a permit for meetings. He said most of the time they are denied or get their approval a day or two before the rally. Sometimes, he continued we paid of announcements but nothing will be announced.
For his part, the National Treasurer of UDP, Mr. Amadou Sanneh thanked the New York Chapter of UDP for their support to the party and urged them to continue their good work for the UDP party. Gambia, he said belongs to us all but controlled by a single person, Yaya Jammeh. He does real estate, farming and imposed forced labor on Gambian people. Gambians are forced to work on his farm or you get fired"
Mr. Wassa Janneh, who chaired the meeting, said yaya jammeh came to power to root out corruption but he said Jammeh is the most corrupt head of state in the sub region. Jammeh he added now ride in fancy cars, and never talk about term limit which was his brain child in the early days of the coup. He further went on to add that the prices of basic commodities are on the roof. He urged Gambians back home to exercise their constitutional right by voting Yaya Jammeh out of office.
Mr. Saihou Mballow asked for an independent inquiry into the deaths and disappearance of law abiding Gambian people.
Other speakers included Omar Trawally, Jarica Touray, Basirou Sissoho. Imam Cheikh Omar Jaiteh Lead the prayers at the meeting and was attended by a cross section of Gambian people in New York City
