Gambia opposition not genuine APRC chief propagandist

Thursday, August 18, 2011
The mayor of Kanifing Municipality  and APRC national mobiliser has described the opposition in The Gambia as ‘not genuine’.Yankuba Colley was speaking to Daily Observer recently at the APRC political bureau in Kanifing.

He pointed out that all key figures in the opposition parties have now joined the party of development [APRC] because they realised that they were being misled by the opposition.

The APRC chief propagandist  declared that no opposition party can challenge the APRC, adding that the ruling party was ready since the day it was registered as a party. He stated further that Gambians want development and nobody can mislead them.

“In fact, there is no opposition in the country, but instead we have so-called opposition parties who will only go to Europe to look for funds and will not even spend it with their supporters, but use the money for their personal [ends],” he added.

Mayor Colley opined that the 2011 ‘Dialogue with the people’s tour’ was successful, as its aims and objectives was very well achieved. He also stressed that Gambians are blessed with a leader who puts development among his top priorities.

He dismissed opposition claims that the people who defected to the APRC during the tour did it only to get money from President Jammeh. He said this is not true, adding that the president helps needy people and not party supporters only. He also condemned tribal politics, saying there is zero tolerance for it in the country.

Colley reiterated that it is not necessary for the president to campaign for the next election as the APRC executive committee is working to ensure that November 25 is  APRC victory celebration day.

He said the president is committed to the development of the country and the welfare of Gambians and has come with a vision that must be accomplished. He then made it clear that they have no other agenda as a party, saying “what we have is how we can develop the country into a Silicon state”.

The APRC national Mobiliser predicted that come 2016 there will be no opposition in the country as all the key figures in the opposition parties would have joined the party of development, which is the APRC.
