Over 200 volunteers from Niamina West District in the Central River Region
(CRR) recently participated in the weeding of President Jammeh’s
three-hectare maize farm at Mali Kunda village.

The volunteers were led to the farm by Yerro Gideh Bah, the chief of Niamina
West; the regional farm coordinator, Abdoulie Boye and the lady councilor,
Mambally Dem.

Speaking shortly after the weeding exercise, Chief Gideh Bah underscored the
importance of establishing district farms for the president, saying they are
meant to complement his efforts in eradicating poverty and ensuring that The
Gambia is food self-sufficient.

He also highlighted President Jammeh’s personal support and commitment to
the course of empowering and developing young people in the country. For
his part, Abdoulie Boye, the regional farm coordinator thanked the people of
Niamina West for the good work they have done on the farm, noting that it
demonstrates their loyalty for President Jammeh and the APRC. He then urged
them to maintain the momentum and remain united.

Ma-Halima Ceesay, the APRC constituency chairman and Lady Councilor Mambally
Dem both commended the volunteers for their efforts. They spoke at length on
the importance of farming, stressing that it is the only forward in the
attainment of food self-sufficiency for the country. They further urged the
people to take agriculture seriously as it is the backbone of the economy.
