TO OUR COMPATRIOTS- LEADERS OF THE OPPOSITION PARTIES(COLLECTIVE OPPOSITION)       

              

 PREAMBLE:

                  I write to suggest for your consideration the following proposal not knowing; anxiously waiting I might add as many fellow Gambians IF you are in negotiations to form a Coalition and IF those negotiations will lead to a Coalition to RID us of the illegal reign of the jammeh dictatorship.

It is a fact that the spectrum of the prospective negotiation that is laid out for consideration in Public by the respective Parties(formal and informal public positions)addresses the Gambian predicament within the contours of pre-election/post-election scenario in the eventuality of the demise of the jammeh regime. Assuming given the the space with which you are expected to operate provides you the legal parameters of acceptable Normal Operating Standards-free and fair elections winner assumes office then all is fair game coalition or no coalition. 

However jammeh by public declaration(again)has stated that even if he looses he will not yield to:

         1. Normal Operating Standards- Concede to the Winner.

         2.Civil Disobedience-Peaceful non-violent action against his illegal regime.   

It is obvious to discern from jammeh's posture that his choice of relinquishing power will be by Extra-ordinary means as is being witnessed across our continent(joint civilian/military)action. I submit that these three options are by no means the exhaustive options available to rid us of jammeh's reign of terror but like all dictators the referee's(peoples) final call means heck to them.For them the 'SHOW' must go on, but till when?In any event unless jammeh gets it into his head that to RESPECT the CONSTITUTION of The REPUBLIC must not be subject to his liking,GAMBIANS Shall Stand Amenable to ALL and ANY option to rid ourselves of his reign of terror. We URGE the collective Opposition to put jammeh on NOTICE that his public declarations are UNACCEPTABLE and WILL be MET with all required measures to ensure the Protection of the CONSTITUTION as OUR FIRST, LAST and ULTIMATE RIGHT to DEFEND.

   DEFENCE OF THE CONSTITUTION:

             6.(2)All Citizens of The Gambia have right and duty at all times to defend the THIS Constitution and, and in Particular to Resist,to the extent reasonably justifiable in the circumstances,any person or group of persons seeking or attempting by any violent or unlawful means to suspend, overthrow or abrogate this Constitution or any part of it.

               (3)Any person who Resists the suspension, overthrow or abrogation of this Constitution as provided in subsection(2), COMMITS NO OFFENCE.

It is a FACT that jammeh has been in CONTEMPT of this Constitution since the first day he laid his hands on it,not to mention the Constitution he overthrew.This goes to the argument of his citizenship no wonder he treats Gambians with utter contempt.This evidence is borne by the Facts of how jammeh treats the State as his personal fiefdom(or is it kingdom as he is ready to be proclaimed king).Of cause we can remember his first wife saying 'my husband is ..... and no one can do f.... about it'. IT IS TIME TO PUT jammeh ON NOTICE. THE TIME IS NOW.

It is conceivable from the fore mention that a Vacuum of Authority or as some would say a Power Vacuum ensures by dint of jammeh's posture which is inevitable. In light of such a scenario, better to have a contingency plan than scramble for one. The suggestion to the Collective Opposition is the formulation of conditions TRANSITIONAL GOVERNMENT-A Government in Waiting to temporary fill the vacuum to avoid lawlessness.

TRANSITIONAL GOVERNMENT:

The mandate shall be for a term of two years.The overriding function of this government shall be to re-establish the Democratic Structures and Institutions that jammeh so decimated to smithereens. Of Cardinal importance to this goal is to bring back to life the Constitution as was produced by the NCC prior to being doctored by jammeh and his junta.For a consideration of limited programs to be implemented and democratic structures to re-establish:

1.FREE PRESS (fourth estate)

      

2.Separation of powers between the three organs-Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary.

       

3.Establish an Independent Electoral Commission.

4.Reduce the size of Government.

       

5.Develop a well thought out plan to transform the youth population to a productive segment of society geared towards national development to be implemented by the succeeding government in a period of 5 years.

       

6.Integrate the Gambian Diaspora by providing them with incentives to invest in all sectors of the economy as well as the seamless transition into Public and Private sector employment.

These are some basics with your better minds you can develop on.This process should be all inclusive and you must as a matter of necessity tap from the immense valuable human resource base of the Gambian Diaspora.The development partners must be engaged at the outset in formulating these programs especially the UN Systems.By being pro-active you would have earned the leverage over any entity that emerges in the instant to assume filling the vacuum in the process stem the hemorrhaging of chaos into lawlessness.

        

 By virtue of your positions as Party leaders;your responsibilities and obligations require you to be visionaries to GOAD the process of democracy in the Gambia in this critical period of history. We have been yearning for the democratic process for the past 17 Years and counting.....ENOUGH; THE TIME IS NOW. SERVE jammeh NOTICE THAT HIS TIME IS UP AND IT IS UP NOW.   

As a People and a Nation who aspire to stand tall in the comity of Nations; shall we make reference to a document that stood the test of time and a revered example in the human enterprise, the United States Declaration of Independence:

       

 2:1 We hold these TRUTHS....,....,.....,among these are life,liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

        

 2:2 That to secure these rights,governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends,it is the RIGHT of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.
