Mboge, indeed, our artist, like the Legal practitioners, Teachers, Imams, Politicians etc., have never said anything remotely close to what Ouza uttered. They do not even mention Yaya by name, much more say anything critical. The artists, like the rest are yearning for Yaya to "Deflene Chi Kerr You Baaxhi", like friend Ndoe Secka used to quib. If we wait for anyone to liberate us, then we have a 60 year date with Yaya.

Joe,

Your observation is quite apt.  But as you rightly alluded to it is the Gambian people who patronise them and indeed they are to blame.  They are the ones who buy tickets to their shows.  Of course if Youssou, Ouza and the likes do really care about peoples suffering it should go beyond nationality/citizenship.  What obtains in Senegal is more or less the same as in the Gambia.  It should be about caring for human kind period.  However, it is the Gambian people who should take a stance and it is only the Gambian people who can liberate themselves from all kinds of oppression.   Well, what about Gambian artists who have been singing the praises of the Butcher of Kanilai.  Ouza and Youssou at least are not scared to raise their voices when it concerns their country but i am yet to see any Gambian artist dare use any lyrics like Ouza's. Perhaps Mile 2 is too nice a hotel from them to have dinner.

Best,
Mboge

Mbodge, a conscious clip indeed. This is where my major beef is with these Senegalese musicians lies: Ouza, Youssou, etc. When things are going bad in Senegal, you see them side with the people. However, as Gambians are being terrorized by a brutal dictator, you see the same clowns go to Gambia to Woyaane and to tell Yaya that "Yalla Kor Fa Taage" and leave with bundles of our resources. The Seringe is also getting his cut. I blame us though. For while they are celebrating our abuse, Gambians are among the chief patrons of these folks. It is about time we start boycotting any Musician that strokes Jammeh's ego at our expense. The other day I saw an interview with Youssou Ndure, foaming about the crisis in Senegal as he should rightfully do. However, when he went to play for Yaya and the APRC in the wake of the Deyda Murder all he could see is money. Gambians are to blame though, for many of us are still deep in sleep and will do anything for a good time. Thus, the Senegalese musicians will continue to sing the praise of Yaya while we dance along. I hope Ouza will also be conscious about the plight of Gambians.
