No wonder the others parties are suspicious of alliance with your party with supporters with attitude like yours! I think some more good folks may need to join the UDP to change these attitudes for the good of all Gambians and the world. 

You are right, I was a fine military officer and that means no dictatorial tendency will intimidate me into silence. So it give up and discuss issues and not fabricate logic, where everyone else knows you are fishing.

This is not an issue. Read the UDP Manifesto. This is a matter of crime and punishment. That is the work of the judiciary and police. Not of opposition parties. The governors set the tone by making sure justice is served equally, without fear or favour.

[Second issue is you have not exactly said how you intend to resolve the stand pipe issue. A more thorough analysis may be needed, as the public stand pipe issue can be thorny. It borders on the fair collection of taxes as well and at the same time the provision of water for everyone, IMHO. An alternative solution is to look at other countries beyond our borders, UK for instance, where water is treated as an essential utility and provided in every home and not on the street, just like electricity.] Kejau.

Everyone in the world would rather have running water in their homes than have to run to the public tap everytime they need water. Instead of waste public resources on a home in Maryland and shopping sprees for his wife, Yahya could build a water treatment plant for every town, lay the pipework to deliver that water to homes, build a sewage treatment plant to treat wastewater before dumping toxic waste in the ocean and killing off fish or making folk sick all the time. No need to look to another country for potable water and sewerage Kejau. Common sense is all we need. When you build a house, you can tap into the public piping infrastructure like everyone else if you can afford it. If you can't afford it, you go to the public tap or seek assistance from the UDP government's Indigent Assistance Fund where no public tap is easily accessible from your million dalasi mansion.

Darboe will;

 

1. Institute a decentralised system of local government administration with local council having significant autonomy.

 

2. Repeal the Local govt. Act 2007 to ensure that our local govt. administration is purely based on democratically elected councils as opposed to presidential appointments

 

3. Allocate central govt. funding to local councils to augment local revenue and promote the equitable distribution of state resources thereby narrowing the disparity in the quality of public services in different regions of the country

 

4. Institute an efficient tax collection regime that would allow the local councils to widen their revenue base but at the same time make them accountable for such taxes.

 

5. All Area councils will be audited twice a year and an audited report presented to the National Assembly at the end of the financial year.

 

6. The central govt. will reserve powers to rain in and discipline rogue councils whose behaviour are to congenial to the desires of their people.

 

7. The people will have an opportunity to change their council or councillors and chairmen/mayor every four years.

 

8. Chairmen/women and mayors will not serve more that 2 terms of four yrs. This is to avoid self perpetuation and promote efficiency.
