A renowned Mauritanian businessman in The Gambia has pledged to give over D1.5M worth of campaign materials to the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh as the November 24 Presidential Election draws closer.

Ahmed El Mealy, the main dealer of the ‘El Hella’ Brand of Chinese green tea in the country made this pledge Friday at State House, when he called on Dr Njie-Saidy to present to her samples of  the campaign materials ahead of its arrival in the country.

He disclosed that the items, which include chest pin buttons, posters, caps, and T-Shirts among others, are expected in the country by October 5th 2011.  He thanked the Gambian leader for ensuring justice, security and liberty in the country, and urged everyone to pray to Almighty God for continuous peace.

Receiving the samples, VP Njie-Saidy thanked El Mealy on behalf of President Jammeh and the APRC for the wonderful gesture, saying Mauritanian businessmen in the country are law-abiding and peace loving. She extolled Banjul-Nouakchott ties, stressing that the cooperation is more of a blood relationship as the citizens of the two countries inter-marry.

The VP said everything the Mauritanian businessman wrote on the T-Shirts is important, and called on others to emulate him. Also speaking at the ceremony, Yankuba Colley, the mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) who also doubles as the APRC national mobiliser hailed EL Mealy for the move, saying it is timely taking into account that the presidential election is fast approaching.

Mayor Colley described President Jammeh as a man of peace, and went on to point out that whoever comes to The Gambia will have security and peace. He also stressed that without security businesses will not flourish.

He acknowledged that the materials are quality and that the wordings on the T-Shirts depict the real aspirations of the Gambian leader. He thanked EL Mealy for the move and said he looks forward to the arrival of the materials.

Ndey Sainabou Jeng alias ‘Yaay Ministerre’ thanked President Jammeh for his development initiatives, saying he has really transformed the country into a beacon of hope for all.

It would be recalled that El Mealy, sometime in July 2011, while presenting a cheque for the sum of D100, 000 as a token towards the successful celebration of the 17th Anniversary of the July 22nd Revolution, promised to provide campaign materials for the APRC ahead of the November 24 Presidential Election.
