Why couldn't the idiots boycot the election and only participate when the election is viewed by them to have been Free and Fair????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

All indications were that this pioneer Cameroon elections have been FREE. But they have not been FAIR.

Pioneer because for the first time, Diaspora Cameroonians have been able to vote without intimidation or apparent bribe. FREE because of the refreshing absence of police and military intimidations, illegal arrests, or deliberate restriction of access to voting.

NOT FAIR because Biya relied on state resources during the campaign period and a superior access to national media and other logistics to mobilize citizens and other independent voters to his side. The Electoral commission however (ELECAM) is a non-state entity and I commend Biya for that sobriety.

Imagine if the opposition had boycotted the elections and DEMAND (through demonstrations) equal access to National media, and Biya's NON-use of national resources - vehicles, fuel, etcetera, and the equitable protection of National security forces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the value of BOYCOTTING an election which YOU KNOW TO BE UNFAIR.

l’opposition voudrait annuler la présidentielle, accusations de fraude

Plusieurs opposants camerounais ont demandé mardi l’annulation de l’élection présidentielle de dimanche avant même la proclamation des résultats qui doit intervenir avant le 24 octobre alors qu’une militante des Droits de l’Homme a porté des accusations de fraude. Tout indique que le président Paul Biya, 78 ans, au pouvoir depuis 1982, sera réélu pour un sixième mandat, cette fois de 7 ans. Madeleine Afité, figure de la société civile camerounaise, a nous affirmé avoir assisté à des fraudes destinées à minimiser le taux d’abstention. "Ce n’était pas pour voter RDPC (Rassemblement démocratique du peuple camerounais, au pouvoir)" mais parce que "les urnes étaient vides. C’était le problème du taux de participation", a-t-elle ajouté, "Il fallait qu’il y ait des bulletins dans les urnes". Les observateurs et les journalistes présents ont noté une faible affluence, à l’issue d’une campagne semblant susciter peu d’engouement. Le quotidien privé Mutations soulignait même que "les électeurs boudent la présidentielle". A Yaoundé, l’équipe d’observateurs du Commonwealth a estimé que le scrutin avait été exempt de "coercition" mais souligné qu’il y avait un "bon nombre de plaintes" sur l’organisation. AFP.
