I will add that Onchoceriasis is caused by a worm-infestation of the cornea. I will endeavour to bring you some health advice every now and again. The keyword is cleanliness particularly hand and face washing. Treatment of drinking water to the best of your ability is also highly recommended. Most municipal water treatment plants only perform clarification and minimal aeration. Budgetary constraints preclude anti-pathogen and antibacterial treatment. Bottled water is not much better either son. That is why regular sanitation and cleanliness are highly recommended.

Trachoma and onchoceriasis lead to cataracts and glaucomas. Most cataracts can be surgically removed but glaucoma is a whole nother story. This is because it is a degenerative disease and is caused by a cumulative affect of other preventable eye diseases and damage of optic and retinal nerves. If you have glaucoma at an advanced age, surgery may be out of the question and medication can prevent further deterioration of vision. Some cases of advanced glaucoma results in complete and irreversible loss of sight.

Please visit www.thegdp.org, click on our Projects page, then from The SEVINK Vision Institute subpage, choose Tracking ROP eye disease.

Thank you.
