If I were Obiang, the first subject matter I will issue the prize for will be "to investigate why Africans are so stoopid". Haruna.

You will recall that some time ago, the President of Guinea Equatorial had offered to fund a UNESCO prize in his name as The Teodoro Obiang Nguema Prize. Well UNESCO was giddy in accepting that nomenclature for the prize on account of the blind ambition and greed of the UNESCO officials. Human RIghts organizations, anti-corruption and money laundering organizations rolled their sleeves to challenge that malignant decision to host the Obiang prize.

We have been treated to a sobering does of revelations on the extent of graft and theft of public resources by the Obiang clan since then, culminating in the seizure of such assets by France and the US among others. There still remains an enormous amount of stolen wealth that is not garnisheed.

However, in his attempt to resurrect some semblance of dignity, Obiang has now agreed that the prize be named for the country of Equatorial Guinea instead of his own name of Obiang Nguema.

UNESCO is considering the more sober appellation.

If I were UNESCO, I will suggest to Obiang to use the funds for the prize and set up an Equatorial GUinea Prize for scientific research so that innovation and research can be encouraged of the citizens of Equatorial Guinea in their quest to improve their lot in life. Perhaps the next great invention for humankind can come from Equatorial Guinea. Then from the success of that, if the nation (people) of Equatorial Guinea wish to augment the capacity of UNESCO in the latter's on-going work or to initiate a new program at UNESCO, then we will consider that. Until then, I would encourage Obiang to work to improve the lot of Equatorial Guineans.

Haruna.
