WCR youths work on President Jammeh’s Ndemban farm <http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/wcr-youths-work-on-president-jammehs-ndemban-farm#map> Africa <http://observer.gm/africa/news> » Gambia<http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/news> Thursday, November 03, 2011 Hundreds of young people from the nine districts in the West Coast Region (WCR) recently embarked on a rice transplanting exercise at President Jammeh’s rice farm in Ndemban village in the Foni Berefet District. The volunteer work was organised by the WCR Youth Committee. Addressing the youths shortly after the exercise, the executive secretary of the National Youth Council (NYC) Marcel Mendy, who led the youths to the farm, commended them for responding to the president’s continuous call for Gambians to go back to the land to grow what they eat and eat what they grow. He further commended the Youth Committees of the region for bringing themselves together as one family, and challenged them to close ranks in the development of the country. The sports coordinator of the region, Mamudou Jawla, expressed satisfaction with the response of the youths of the region to President Jammeh’s back-to-the-land call. Abdoulie Badjie, chairperson of Foni Kansala District Sports Committee, commended participants for taking part in the exercise. He urged the WCR Youth and Sports Committee to always endeavour to nurture cordial relations, collaboration and partnership amongst young people of the region in the interest of development. The chairperson of the WCR Youth Committee, Dembo Kambai also commended the youths for their efforts.
