The minister of Forestry and the Environment has said that the opposition
has no agenda for Gambians. Honourable Jatto Sillah, who is also one of
the liaison officers for APRC in the Upper River Region (URR) was speaking
on behalf of President Jammeh during the launching of the APRC Regional,
Constituency, and Ward Campaign Committees in URR Wednesday at the Regional
Education Office Directorate in Basse.

He said the opposition knows that the whole of URR is behind President
Jammeh and the APRC. “We don’t want people to come and tell them lies, what
we have on the ground is that the whole URR is APRC,” he stated, adding
that they also want to see a free, fair and secure electoral system, which
he said is already in place and will be implemented.

Sillah further said the opposition cannot even unite, and that Gambians are
very much aware of that fact. “The mistake we had in URR the last time was
people coming from the Kombo telling us all sorts of lies that the whole of
Kombo is behind the opposition,” he said, adding that those in the habit of
misinforming the people are not welcome in the region.

The Forestry and Environment minister declared that URR will set a record
in this year’s election by voting 95% for the APRC, while promising a
massive turnout of voters during the election period.

He advised the people to maintain peace before, during, after the election,
stressing that the peace and security of The Gambia will not be
compromised. He urged the people to come out in large numbers and vote for
President Jammeh.

He said: “President Jammeh is incomparable to any other leader because his
efforts have been well-recognised throughout the world and for that,
Gambians should be proud of him. This is the time for Gambians to
reciprocate the gesture brought by the president and all what he has done
for them.”

Hon. Edward Gomez, the attorney general and minister of Justice who is also
one of the liaison officers of the APRC in URR, reiterated his call on the
people of URR to come out in large numbers and vote for President Jammeh.

“The love for President Jammeh should go beyond just saying it, but this is
the time for people to mean their words by voting for him massively,” he
emphasised.
He finally prayed for long life and good health for President Jammeh and
the Gambian people.

For his part, Honourable Sellu Bah, National Assembly member for Basse, who
is the chairman of the regional campaign committee and also the APRC Desk
officer for URR, predicted that the region will win the inter-regional
competition [on the number of votes cast for the APRC] come the election
day.

He recalled that the people of URR told President Jammeh not to campaign,
while promising 95% victory for the Gambian leader in the region come 24th
November, 2011.

Hon. Bah also disclosed that logistics are in place for a successful
campaign from the 12th-22nd November, assuring that people of URR will
reciprocate positively to what the president has done for them by coming
out in large numbers to vote for him.

He also thanked the youths and all APRC militants for their support to the
party over the years. For his part, the governor of URR, Alhaji Omar Khan,
described the meeting as very important, as different APRC campaign
committees are launched to steer the upcoming campaign activities of the
party.

He stated that the 95% vote target promised by the people of his region
will be met by the grace of the Almighty God, considering the number of
defections from the opposition to the ruling party during the president’s
Dialogue With the Peoples’ Tour in July this year.

He also advised his people to maintain peaceful conduct before, during, and
after the election. Omar Sampo Ceesay, chairman of the Basse Area Council,
said this year’s election belongs to the local government councils,
pointing out that both the national mobiliser and the women mobiliser are
all from the councils. He assured that his Council will work hand-in-glove
with the people to ensure that President Jammeh gets the highest percentage
of votes in URR.

Other speakers at the launching ceremony included Hon. Mama Kandeh of
Jimara District; Chief Jun Bah of Sandu; Chief Hammeh Minteh Krubally of
Fulladou East; Mawdo Amadou Susso, regional youth mobiliser; Mariama Jaw,
regional women mobiliser; and Hammeh Jabou Krubally, APRC regional
chairman. They all promised 95% votes for president Jammeh.

The launching also witnessed the presentation of a cheque for D100, 000 by
Honourable Netty Baldeh, the National member for Tumana, to the women of
his constituency. He also pledged D10, 000 to the URR women for their
contribution on the nomination day.
