Our  tradition demands that the good gestures of people be reciprocated. It is on this basis that  His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Yahya Jammeh  yesterday began a nationwide  tour, to commend the people of this country for the mandate they gave to him to lead us to the realisation of our common aspirations.

It is now 17 good years since President Jammeh assumed the leadership of The Gambia. November 24th 2011 would mark the fourth consecutive time Gambians would show approval of his leadership. President Jammeh has comfortably won three elections, and is from all indications heading for another landslide victory in the forthcoming one. The political conduct of Gambians even before the official countdown to the polls began has already endorsed this conclusion.

What engendered this reality is simple. Gambians continue to rally behind the APRC leadership because of the dynamic and visionary leadership qualities of President Jammeh and the numerous development projects brought about by his regime. No human being with conscience can argue otherwise. The Jammeh regime’s numerous achievements in the sphere of national development have made Gambians to understand that the leadership came into being with a purpose and clearly articulated objectives for self-determination and sustainable development of the country.

The leadership has demonstrated beyond all reasonable doubt its commitment to the promotion of national identity and unity as well as the improvement of the lives of our people in both the moral and material sense. One needs not much to see the advancement in the political process, economic development, social emancipation and progress, cultural revalorization and promotion within the past 17 years.

As the president and the APRC embark on a campaign, Gambians particularly women and youths should not forget that it is election time. A massive turnout of Gambians come November 24th to once more endorse President Jammeh’s development agenda would not only illustrate that Gambians are appreciative of the development achievements of this government, but would also illustrate how much they value their country and desire development.

What we should do now is to continue to manifest the spirit of loyalty and be in solidarity with the efforts of the government. 17 years has placed us on a greater path to success than ever before in the annals of our history.
