Saiks, Ouattara has not even gulped and he is already getting drunk. They seemed to not learn from those before them. And thing about African leaders and their complex. Everyone must praise or ooooohhhhhhhh aaaahhhhhhhh over them to silliness. Gbagbo and Ouattara came from the same cloth and it will be just a matter of time before he will also be who most of us thought he is.

MFWA Cote d’Ivoire UPDATE: Notre Voie journalists charged for insulting President
Ouattara
The Ivorian authorities have served their interest to jail three staff members of Notre Voie, a pro-opposition newspaper,
who allegedly insulted President Alassane Ouattara in articles published in the newspaper on November 21, 2011.
The Media Foundation for West Africa’s (MFWA) reported that the state prosecutor on November 29, 2011 brought
bogus charges against César Etou and Boga Sivori, Publisher and Head of the Political Desk and Didier Dépry, the
administrator respectively. The charges are “incitement to theft, looting and destruction of the property of others
through the press.”
The correspondent said it is likely that the three journalists may be found guilty and sentenced to harsh prison
sentence. They are to face summary trial during the week
The charges against César Etou and Boga Sivori stemmed from accusation in the newspaper that President Ouattara
had acquired luxury Mercedes Benz cars for himself and his cabinet ministers. In the case of Didier Dépry, the
administrator, he was alleged in the same issue of the newspaper to have remarked that the country’s currency would
be devalued in spite of denials by the Central Banks for West and Central Africa.
The correspondent said the detained journalists embarked on hunger strike on November 28 to protest their detention.
They were detained on November 24 and have been moved to the Civil Prison (MACA) in Abidjan.
“ The 2004 law on the media legal framework which forbids the detention of journalists for breaches of the press laws
was clearly not taken into account by the Abidjan Public Prosecutor’s Office,” stated Cote d’ Ivoire National Union of
Journalists(UNJCI), which demanded their immediate release in a communiqué issued on November 29.

Les autorités ivoiriennes ont laissé entendre leur intention de faire incarcérer trois membres du personnel de Notre
Voie, un journal proche de l’Opposition, qui auraient injurié le président Alassane Ouattara dans des articles parus dans
la livraison du journal du 21 novembre 2011.
La correspondante de la Fondation pour les Médias en Afrique de l’Ouest (MFWA) a rapporté que le 29 novembre, le
Procureur de la République a porté de fausses inculpations contre César Etou, Boga Sivori et Didier Dépry,
respectivement directeur de publication, chef du service politique et secrétaire de la rédaction. Les inculpations sont «
incitation au vol, aux pillages et à la destruction des biens d’autrui par voie de presse ».
La correspondante a affirmé qu’il est probable que les trois journalistes seront reconnus coupables et condamnés à des
peines de prison sévères. Ils seront jugés en flagrant délit au cours de la semaine.
Les inculpations portées contre César Etou et Boga Sivori émanent de l’accusation des articles du journal selon laquelle
le président Ouattara avait acheté des voitures Mercedes de luxe pour lui-même et ses ministres. Au cas de Didier
Dépry, le secrétaire de la rédaction, il aurait remarqué dans la même livraison du journal que la monnaie du pays serait
dévaluée, et ce en dépit des démentis des banques centrales de l’Afrique de l’Ouest et Centrale.
La correspondante a informé que les journalistes détenus ont entamé une grève de la faim le 28 novembre 2011 pour
protester contre leur détention. Ils ont été détenus le 24 novembre et ont été déférés à la Maison d’Arrêt et de
Correction d’Abidjan (MACA).
« La loi de 2004 portant régime juridique de la presse qui interdit la détention des journalistes pour des délits de presse
n’a visiblement pas été prise en compte par le parquet d’Abidjan », a affirmé l’Union Nationale des Journalistes de Côte
d’Ivoire (UNJCI) qui a demandé leur libération immédiate dans un communiqué publié le 29 novembre.
