Haruna,
Drills. Fillings. Root canals. Extractions.
Dentures.
I like my dentist. He provides terrific care to
me and my family. But I’d be lying if I said I actually enjoy everything
he does.
What’s this have to do with Public Citizen?
Our legal team recently filed a lawsuit
challenging a form many dentists and doctors require their patients to
sign. The form prohibits patients from sharing how they were treated
with friends and neighbors via websites like DoctorBase, Facebook or
Yelp.
You may have unwittingly signed one of these
forms yourself just trying to complete all the paperwork before you or
your child could get treated for an aching tooth or a sprained ankle.
The very day after we filed the lawsuit, the
company that markets the form announced that it will stop doing so.
That’s the reach and power of Public Citizen.
Whenever and wherever the rights of consumers
or the principles of democracy are in peril, Public Citizen will remain
— as it has for generations — as vigilant and effective an advocate for
justice as you’ll find.
And
when people power is backed by financial power, our progress can’t be
stopped. Contribute $150 or more to Public Citizen’s year-end campaign
today and build the power!
Don’t forget to choose as our thanks a DVD from a selection of progressive films including Battle in Seattle
, The Cove
, Erin Brockovich
and Michael Moore’s Sicko
.
Public Citizen takes on the biggest challenges,
challenges that many think impossible, challenges that demand relentless
perseverance.
And we win.
Like the years we spent fighting auto industry
opposition to airbags. Now, you can’t buy a car without them.
Like the years we’re prepared to spend fighting the Supreme Court’s misguided Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission
ruling that corporations are entitled to the same First Amendment
rights as people. I make this pledge to you: Public Citizen will not
stand by while Big Business tries to take over our democracy.
