“We Will Come After You If Ambassador OG Sallah Loses His Job,” Granny Sallah Warns Freedom Editor
She Says The Late Sailou Jallow’s Mother Said She Will Not Allow A Postmortem To Be Conducted On Her Son’s Body!
By Ganny Sallah
Asalamu'alaikum,
First of all Pa Nderry, as a Muslim I am apologizing for raising my voice on a fellow brother. Back to the topic we spoke briefly about, my family is deeply disappointed in your behavior as a Gambian- as our tradition does not encourage such slander. But more importantly, as a Muslim quick to publish a story about a man that has already passed away. We cannot help but wonder that if Momodou Sailou Jallow was your blood brother, would you treat your late family member as you have treated ours?
After concluding our family meeting today, I had been selected to call you. And as I was sitting quietly in a corner just thinking, I began to wonder where your morals and culture come from. Please, let's remember we are Muslims, from a very small Gambia where everyone is related and should strive to be peaceful. I did call the person you tapped the photo from and asked her with respect to put the rest down as we like to avoid conflict and do not entertain those who are out only to seek unnecessary attention.
Momodou Sailou was in fact a gentleman and good citizen, with a wife and child. His wife is Fatmata Jallow and the son is named after his father Baba Gibbi Jallow. Since Friday when Allah SWT reclaimed Sailou's life, there are no dried tears in this compound.
Even my own mother, his grandmum who is 96 years old fainted in shock. But only what Allah SWT wishes will happen and we understand that. How can we be going through so much here and within days of his death you are narrating fabricated stories, just because someone wrote you rubbish.
The public are well aware that they can tell you anything, and you will post it. An educated man like you should- at the very least- first research and get your story straight. Otherwise, your online news paper holds about as much importance as the average American tabloid... not encouragement for our people but for promoting rumors.
As for my brother OG Sallah, what do you think you are doing? Your intentions are highly questionable. This man is a Gambian who worked hard for his degree, further working for the foreign service for the majority of his life. Is he not deserving of his position?
We feel you are witch hunting him, and as my mother asked me to say, if anything happens to him, we will surely come after you. Do you know the word 'Chattu', that is what we feel you are doing to him. Please leave him and the rest of our family alone. We do not blame the death of our son on anyone, Allah SWT said that it was his time to go. That is what we call faith, and that is the reason we are able to get through. You tell me, without a postmortem, how did you know how he died. Just by people say?
I believe we all left Gambia to better our lives in the States. We have to look out for each other. We are not politicians, never have been. Why should you relate my nephews death with politics. That is not nice and not humanly. Allah SWT dictates who remains on earth, and who goes back to him... as we are all here only temporarily.
This is the paper you work for, even though your news was published, it is not late to bring down your post. And an apology would be appreciated. Not from your word but from what we have said. Should you research about Sailou's parents, you would be shocked as well as embarrassed from offending great Muslims and humble people. This is not the first time you have offended our family, please let this be your last.
Thank you
- Granny Sallah
Editors note: Thanks Madam Granny Sallah for speaking your mind. It’s rather unfortunate that you seems to be more concerned about the possibilities of your brother OG Sallah losing his Ambassadorial job and not the plight of your murdered loved one Sailou Jallow. How dare are you to threaten to come after my humble self in the event OG loses his job?
OG Sallah losing his job is that the end of his career, or life? You mean to tell us that OG Sallah keeping his job, is more important than the life of Sailou Jallow, who died under mysterious circumstances? So sister Granny’s main beef is: Keeping one’s job versus a human life? Chey Aduna!
This is very sad indeed! That Granny Sallah of all people is putting more value on a Government job than the life of her lost relative. Her letter to the Freedom Editor speaks volume. Why stooping that low Granny at a time, when the entire nation is mourning, and asking legitimate questions about: who must have been responsible for the murder of a great son, and also an asset to the Gambia in the person of Sailou Jallow, who died due to medical negligence?
Granny also brags about her family’s success pre Jammeh era. She said they have been doing much better before Yahya Jammeh coming to power. But she is not getting the main gist of the story. We are not talking about wealth here. We are more concern about Sailou’s life, which has been recklessly taken away by some callous health workers.
Listening to her Freedom Radio ranting phone call, characterized by threats of inciting others to lynch the Freedom Editor through mob justice for merely having the audacity to report about Sailou’s death, goes to show that sister Granny is not up to anything good. How dare that she can incite others to beat Pa Nderry? How dare that she can accuse Gambians in the diaspora of using Freedom Radio as an outlet to smear President Jammeh and his Government?
Granny, in all fairness, I do not think you are doing justice to the late Sailou Jallow, the Gambia, and her people. The issue at hand is beyond personal interest, personal feelings, politics, and propaganda.
You seem to be encouraging impunity by failing, or refusing to speak the truth. Your snap on us not coming home to help develop the country is irrelevant at this hour! This is not a question of one refusing to come home to contribute to nation building. It’s a question of how justice can be meted out to the perpetrator(s) of Sailou Jallow’s death. It’s a question of how Gambia’s health sector can be accountable to its patients, and people. It’s a question of keeping our medical doctors and health authorities honest! It’s a question of seeking the truth on a matter which has devastated the entire nation. It’s a question of winning public trust and confidence into our ailing health sector. It’s a question of not allowing other patients dying under similar circumstances.
That said, it’s imperative to note that Granny’s own son disagreed with her mum’s position. Mr. Mambouray clearly and intelligently argued on Freedom Radio that her mum’s method of approach towards the issue was rather unfortunate. She did not only harass, threaten, and vilify Pa Nderry M’Bai, she went as far as accusing Mr. M’Bai of being unpatriotic and brainwashing his audience with smear campaign stories against the status quo.
Mr. Mambouray maintains that the issue of objective, and responsible reporting is paramount, but did stressed that he is not convince that Sailou Jallow died as a result of natural causes—opposed to her mum’s own position on the matter.
Like all other concerned Gambians, Granny’son’s too wants this matter to be investigated and possibly justice be sought against the perpetrators of such a heinous crime. We are entirely in agreement with Mr. Mambouray. All we are asking for is: justice to prevail in Sailou’s case.
Trust me Granny, if Sailou’s case is left uninvestigated, it will give room to the perpetrators to think that they are not responsible for any crime. This gives room to impunity. And do you know what does this mean for the Gambia? It means that more Sailou Jallow’s will die in the Gambia due to medical negligence.
Granny overreacted by making false accusations against the Freedom Radio callers. She even dares accuses our good friend, and brother Pa Samba Jaw, and this Editor of not contributing towards Gambia’s development. She asked Pa Samba: What have you done for the Gambia--besides sitting in America criticizing the Government? Mr. Jaw responded by educating her about some of the humanitarian relief works he, and his colleagues in the USA are doing to help the poor and the needy in the Gambia.
What Granny ought to realize is that one does not need to be physically resident in the Gambia to contribute his, or her quota to nation building. As rightly argued by Mr. Jaw, the Gambian diasporan community yearly monetary remittances back home, which is in the tune of over $8 Million US dollars is a clear testimony, and manifestation of our contribution to Gambia’s socio economic development. There is no one contributing towards Gambia’s development today more than those living outside the country.
As it’s evident, the country is currently witnessing an infrastructural and economic collapse—thanks to Jammeh’s misguided handling of the economy and the country. So let Granny get her facts right before making unsubstantiated claims.
In addition, some us have been contributing, and are still contributing our quota towards national development in the form of educational radio programs. We spend several thousands of dollars in trying to enlighten our people by way of radio programming, news reporting, and sound analysis of the misplaced policies of the regime in Banjul—which Granny is busy glorifying to the expense of her lost relative.
Thanks to Granny, we now know that Sailou’s mum is against any postmortem to be conducted on the body of their loved one. Those responsible for Sailou’s death have been indemnified. In other words, the family is not interested in pursuing justice. Sailou has been buried without an autopsy carried out on him to establish his actual cause of death. Does Sailou deserve his death to be swept under the carpet? The answer is not mine. It’s yours Granny! We rest our case.
