Well Haruna, Sorry if I come across as too jittery.] Al.

I forgive you for coming off as jittery my friend. No biggie. In moderation.

[I think the Mali situation is worth Jittery isn't it?] Al.

No Al I don't think so. If you become overly jittery about anything, you're either prone to extremes or focus eludes you inadvertently.

[I also thought it matters thus the need to share it.] Al.

And that's exactly why I shared the news of Abidine's arrest. It was just an arrest and he will be turned over to justice when the investigation into the counter-coup is completed. So the idea of an arrest is not much more significant than the prosecution of the charges. I'm not sure how the story of Abidine's arrest spilled over into whether or not I support ATT's leadership or how many days were left before he formally handed over power.

[If we also put it into broader context the situation affects us indirectly or at least morally.] Al.

I agree entirely with you here Al. The Mali situation affects all mankind indirectly and directly in all ways. That is the reason why I am concerned enough to follow the events there and share news with you my friends and coleagues.

[I think regardless of what we think about ATT's reign, he was at least a soldier with a difference - came into power, handover and came back to govern democratically with term limits.] Al.

ATT came to power in a coup at a moment of great national interrogation for Mali. He presided over a relatively peaceful transition and transfer of leadership to a civilian government. This he must be commended for and should serve as inspiration to all coup makers and leaders alike. His return to power after that civilian government is a matter of great consternation for Malians. For greater ambiance and perspective, I share with you this review: http://touch.dailymotion.com/video/xrutlp_les-defis-du-sahel-focus-sur-la-crise-malienne_news
After you have expanded your frame of reference on ATT and his leadership, I declare to you that we have in Mali is bigger than ATT or his leadership. There were 100s of soldiers massacred in Aguelhoc and Tessalit due to ATT's spectacular incompetence.

[This precedence matters to African peace and democracy.] Al.

No. There's no such thing as African peace and democracy Al. You and I will disagree on this perhaps for posterity. Where I do agree with you is the fact that the precedence of ATT making a coup d'etat against another military leader who had lost legitimacy and ATT supervised a peaceful transition of leadership to a civilian government is inspirational to you, myself, and all Malians. Notice I didn't say anything about democracy or African democracy.

[Thus, I hope history counts him as a defender of democracy willing to relinquish power to give our people a chance for peace.] Al.

Alfalfa you're very funny. Who do you think writes history????? Plus I want to share with you that peace is as much respite from war as it is a transition between wars. It is not some divine notion of justice. I am sure you understand what I'm saying. I generally do not speak of the democratic nature of a leader. I prefer to speak of a democratic nation and people. The natural state of mankind is democracy.

[Thanks for sharing Haruna.] Al.

You're most welcome cousin Demba. I hope I have added some value to your perspectives.

I don't understand Alfalfa. Are you referring to me forwarding news of events unfolding in Mali or are you referring to the capture of Col. Abidine Guindo, which news I shared with you below????

You guys are too jittery for my nerves. FWIW, it is not terribly significant whether I, Haruna, is in support or against the overthrow of ATT. And it is not terribly significant whether ATT was a minute, an hour, a day, or a week from handing over leadership when he was overthrown. In national existential matters, these considerations are and should be remote in the citizen's mind. Particularly the citizen who is involved in a coup d'etat. None of this bears on whether Haruna supports or rejects the overthrow of ATT and when???

Are you for the leadership of ATT or the recovery of Mali's territorial and social integrity Alfalfa?? And does it really matter?????

Haruna. Ky, we don't wanna hear it.

Wow Haruna, I don't get this... Are you in support of ATT's overthrow even though he was few months from handing over power to any elected party? Just curious and trying to make sense of what is happening to our dear Mali?

Regards

Demba

You will remember that in their attempt to maintain ATT as president of Mali and subsequently to stage a counter-coup, the red berets mounted a surprise but unsuccessful assault on CNRDRE positions at the national radio station, the airport, and the main military base in Kati. The leader of this unit, Col. Abidine GUindo has escaped capture until now. Haruna.
