Brother Khaleel,
You've moved me to near tears. Am speechles. Everything that came from your that great mouth carries great volume and its has carried me on board. I strongly agreed with those valid points you made.
On that note please take the driving seat for am now a bit sleepy. Please use those motivative skills of yours to try unite us for in my view Gambians in the  diaspora are the reasons for Jammeh's continued brutality on our people. I belief on united on a common cause the tyrant would have nothing but bow to our wishes as citizens and partners in developing Gambia but selfish and personal greed with sentiments have cemented the divide and to crack that to mild it for the betterment if our people who now look up to us to save it quite far fetched in my view. Try and I volunteer to be your disciple with prayers of success.

Bamba,

Thank you for taking your precious time to read and contribute to the discussion. I have to admit no one ever called me honorable but I can answer to that anytime. Thanks. I respect your opinion first as a sincere person and second as a concerned citizen of our beloved nation both of which deserve commendation.

I think you miss my argument though. Stevie Wonder can see that the Jammeh regime hijacked out government with all that flowery speech of transparency and accountability just to be equalled or worst at it than anyone ever in the history of mankind.  They failed their mission to satisfy the demands of the citizens they are sworn to serve instead they vow to believe that the citizens owe them and they are doing us a favor by building roads everything else. This could not be more further from the truth and a clear misuse of power and privilege which erroneously translates to leadership to them.

In reference to the VP interview, all I am saying is that we can’t use the same failed, illegal, immoral barbaric ways of the Jammeh regime to reach a dignified outcome. We need to extend respect, dignity and options to each other regardless of views and opinions, that my brother is the right thing and equally the right way. We cannot dismiss logic amidst chaos and confusion. We have to rise above that. The sane people of this great nation cannot lose ourselves. We have to remain sane.

Please allow me to echo you and every Gambian’s frustration about the decisions of this regime which sets us so far back that recovery would take decades. At this point I think we should all come together to push for one agenda at least. An agenda that can revive our nation in the future if nothing else; a large percentage of our population is young. We should seize that advantage and educate them understanding that there is a formal and informal education we can vest on them. I believe the outcome will yield fruitful dividends.

I am by no means exalting myself as a man with the answers or the most intelligent for that matter. Please look beyond that because I will be the first to tell you, I am not.  The point here is that the means by which the interview is obtained is by any standard wrong and cannot be justified I think. We cannot push the Jammeh agenda of tearing each other apart for self righteousness. We are fortunate to be educated and should use the great lessons learned to make a noticeable difference in act and views. Thanks again and I welcome your opinion.

Gentlemen,
I am surprised at honourable khaleel's notion that in his view the interview larks substance and the like, my gosh maybe Mr. Khaleel does not know the Gambian regime or even if he does then he is writing for the sake of arguments. Having great respect for his views though, I feel it is important Mr Khaleel come to the realisation of the fact that our country has turned into a nation of fake administrators and thus as a result, the only way public can be educated about dealings of the government is what Mr. Mbye managed . Though I agree there shouldn't be any hiding but under the circumstances that was the only way Gambians would have known our very own VP was only merely a robot being remote controlled for instance she confirmed she was only given a piece of paper or told some student fired at the security forces or shooting came from within the student body first during the April demonstrations.
Now I ask Mr Khaleel would any second in command act like that when the first in command was out of the country and you expected to be in charge? I only hope Mr. Khaleel understand what type of cloud hovers over Gambians as a nation. With all due respect how did you expect it to have been better done than the way Mr Mbye handled it?

Great points still Khaleel. Anyway like Professor A.Saine said once, "We must accept to agree and disagree without having to be disagreable."

I take it that you are frustrated with the interview without consent.

No worries and i look forward to more of your input. I only hope that the jammeh administration will realize the need to start being transparent about happenings. That would create less curiosity and go a long way to fix speculations.

Gentlemen, I can't even honestly say I understand your position though I respect your stance. Yes the Jammeh regime may not know what transparency means even if their life depends on it and they look it up in the webster dictionary.  They clearly do not have conducive conditions set for free press in the Gambia, but that does not excuse or give reason for a journalist to call on false premise to obtain an interview. That interview was very distasteful to say the least. We can assume all we want that she would not have submit to it had she knew but she stated that she would have. We would never know the truth now would we? We cannot not, should not and must not think that it is ok to deceive someone in order to push our agenda. That woman deserve the respect and option to either submit or decline the interview regardless of her affiliation or position. Anyone of us would demand that same respect if it were us. This notion that APRC denying independent media have nothing to do with any individual unless that person is the decision maker in APRC.

It is not up to Jammeh administration to validate diaspora media. This is a platform for the people that share interest about our nation to read and learn factual information that is objective and informative. We should refrain from using such tactics that will reduce us to their level. Why should Pa talk about her daughter being played with by men in America? Lets report facts and not gossips. Focus on building a medium for the diaspora free from personal attacks. Yes I know she mentioned that Jammeh paid for Pa's mother's Hajj but we are more advanced, more sophisticated and have a better understanding of reporting requirements or at least shout be. So we can't play those silly little games. We need to focus on building credibility.

I didn't hear any thing with substance that came out of that interview and the most damming thing is when he took excerpts of the interview and elaborated on them with personal attacks and insults. If you call his action a clever tactic then something is terribly wrong. If we subject to these tactics as a vehicle for obtaining information, there is no hope for the future.  It is indeed a disgrace for the VP to render a telephonic interview without knowing who was at the other end of the line. I can't believe that she was that gullible. Who advises her?

Gents these are my opinion as we are all entitle to ours. I don't know the VP, never spoke to her and probably never even saw her. All I know is that this is wrong from any way you look at it and it is troubling to know that someone is welling to defend this kind of behavior and tactic.

Demba, I am welling to discuss my thoughts with you over the phone without a third party  provided that it won't be recorded and used without my authorization. Send me a personal email with a phone number and I will give you a buzz. I am currently not in NC but should be back in town shortly. Blessing to everyone have a great evening.

Mawdo Demba,

Like you, I also think Khaleel is entitled to his opinion or feel the way he does as a result of his personal view of things.

Upon reflection though, I think many things came out from this interview.  Here is what Demba Ali Jawo said, "
However, knowing the governance environment operating in the Gambia, she would have never willingly granted such an interview to anyone, most especially to Pa Nderry of all people. Therefore, the very fact that Pa Nderry has used some clever tactics to get her to talk to him, is an indication of shrewdness on his part. If he had given her a false name in order to obtain the interview, then he would have been guilty of deception and unethical behavior, but from what we have heard, the VP never even asked for his name or identity before she started to freely speak to him.

Therefore, it is not quite evident that Pa Nderry breached the journalism code of ethics in obtaining the interview, for the fact that he did not give a false name or identity to VP Njie-Saidy, apart from telling her that he was an APRC supporter, which may or may not be true."

I hope Khaleel considers the other side of the spectrum as well. Here is an administration that doesn't even have an information minister. The situation would have been a little different if this administration was transparent. Everyone knows they are not transparent and that is unfortunate.

Best,
Yero

Khaleel,

I respectfully disagree with your take on the interview. Where all doors to the independent media are shut, where everyone who   opposes government policies is branded as an enemy and unpatriotic, journalists and every conscious citizen who understand the difference between an individual person or political and a nation will do what is required to get public officials to speak.

Instead of condemning the interview and the manner it was obtained why not look at the reasons that led to that manner of behavior. why do you think Journalists need to hide to speak with Public officials? Do you think they should recognize the diaspora media who currently have the largest audience on Gambian media?

As a last word, you are free to come out and speak with the media yourself if you so desire. We should all be open to discuss matters of Gambian interest. I look forward to a positive response from you.

Regards

Demba

I just got the opportunity to listen to an interview Pa Nderry had with the Gambian VP. I must first say it disgusted me. It was very unprofessional, unethical and immoral. I am certain that it violates some serious journalism ethics. We have to rise above this kind of petty behavior, act maturely, be honest and sincere if we are serious about change. This type of behavior under the banner of journalism has no place in our society and should be condemn.
