Hi Malik,

Thanks & understood. I certainly did give them the benefit of the doubt. I equally don't question their sincerity. I am still of the view that the heaps of praises were just too much, especially when addressing the very person who is oppressing you. The plea for the female prisoners is fine.

GAMCOTRAP Confronts Jammeh On Gender Bias

SAYS WOMEN ARE DENIED PRESIDENTIAL AMNESTY

Dr. Isatou: We Want Equal Treatment for Men & Women, Mr. President!
Yahya Jammeh: Why Do You Want Women Prisoners to Rot in Prison?
The Gambia Committee on Traditional Practices affecting the Health of Women and Children (GAMCOTRAP) has drawn President Yahya Jammeh’s attention to the gender bias being meted out to the Gambia’s women prisoners who were left out of the presidential amnesty.
In a letter to Gambian President, the non-governmental organization said female prisoners deserve the same treatment as the male prisoners.
”Hence the gender debate is all about equality in treatment of people and in all aspects women and men should be given equal opportunities and equal treatment,” concurred GAMCOTRAP’s Executive Director Dr. Isatou Touray.
Find below GAMCOTRAP’s letter to President Jammeh:

Your Excellency,
GAMCOTRAP PLEADS ON BEHALF OF FEMALE PRISONERS FOR A PARDON
GAMCOTRAP wishes to appreciate your kind and magnanimous gesture during the holy month of EID EL ADHA in giving praise and blessing to the Gambian polity and all Muslims in particular. GAMCOTRAP wishes to also thank you and appreciate your kind gesture towards the release of prisoners who you have pardoned. Allah the Almighty will reward you for such magnanimity and sense of forgiveness. While this is towards the right direction, GAMCOTRAP has observed that female prisoners were not considered going by the list of names of Prisoners we saw published in the local newspapers on the 29th October 2012.
GAMCOTRAP is appealing to you in the name of Allah the Almighty to also take note of the female prisoners who also deserve to be considered in your amnesty during this holy month of TOBASKI. We feel that female prisoners deserve the same treatment as the male prisoners on a day like that.
Hence the gender debate is all about equality in treatment of people and in all aspects women and men should be given equal opportunities and equal treatment.
GAMCOTRAP joins the population in congratulating you for advancing Human Rights and the dignity of the persons in the Holy Day of TOBASKI and season and we pray that Allah, the Almighty will continue to guide you in the great responsibility bestowed upon you to lead the great nation of Gambia.
Best Regards,
Dr. Isatou Touray
Executive Director
GAMCOTRAP

Yerro in fairness to her, her praises were very guarded and very general, and since it was not intended for her own good  but for the greater good of humanity, particularly female prisoners, one can understand her plea and contextualise it, Gambia is a tough and rugged road to trail.

Now that they are free, I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate the two, at the same time caution against the kind of letter I saw addressed to Jammeh with heaps of praises from GAMCORAP. The danger in heaping praises to Jammeh is, you give him more instruments to treat you bad.

Best regards,
Yero
