Hous, allow me to come in amicus of France:

1. France has neither the resources nor the desire to be the World's police force by herself. Policing the world must be a concerted effort by citizens of all nations, large or small, to augment the efforts of the UN variously.

2. The people and government of Mali requested the assistance of the UN, EU, ECOWAS(AU), NATO, and all people of goodwill to prosecute criminals and bandits in North Mali. The criminal campaign began over a year ago when it looked like the Tuareg people were fighting for independence and secession from Mali. They waged this campaign through MNLA which has been the historic formation that campaigns on the behalf of the Tuareg group. However, the territory they claim to be Azawad is also the land of the Sonrhai, the Peulh, the Bambara, the Malinke, Arabs, and the Moors of Mali. When Ansaaru Ddeen, AQMI, and their associated MUJAO recognized the demerits of MNLA's claims to this territory, and to shore up their illicit trade in drugs and munitions, they decided to expel the MNLA from their own territory. Ansaaru Ddeen, AQMI, and their associated MUJAO are citizens of Mauritania, Algeria, Libya, Nigeria, Niger, and Burkina Faso variously, so they constitute an invading force into Northern Mali. The world community had been gearing up to assist Mali in negotiations with the initial MNLA because it comprised mainly Malians who were disenchanted with successive government of Mali when it related to their welfare and development. It was not until the foreign invading army of Ansaaru Ddeen, AQMI, and MUJAO overran Konna near Mopti that France and now the rest of the world woke up to the criminal enterprise's menace. After the foreign invading criminals are expelled from all of Malian territory and or prosecuted for their crimes, France and the rest of the world will assist Malians, MNLA or not, in negotiating a more lasting and viable community among citizens of the same nation.

3. In Libya, the people of Cyrenaica pleaded with the UN and all nations of goodwill to intervene on their behalf to stop their impending massacre. It took a while because the UN, EU, AU, and the organization of Sahel Nations were pleading with Gaddafi to withdraw his pronouncements to slaughter the people of Cyrenaica. When it looked like Gaddafi was bent on completing his promise and columns of his brigades were headed for Benghaazi that France and the US intervened to avert the slaughter of children, women, and men.

4. I shall leave you to compare and contrast the above two events with what obtains in Sooriyya, Somalia, and the Congos. I'm not sure what you meant by the Congos but I'm sure you are aware that a ceasefire has been agreed to in CAR between the government of Bozize and the M23 rebels, and a more representative government of all the people of that nation is anticipated.

I hope this helps Hous and I encourage you to strengthen the hands of the people and governments of France, EU, NATO, the US, Russia, China, the UN, the UK, Senegal, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Niger, South Africa, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, The Netherlands, and Norway so we can all police the world.

Haruna.

Subject: [G_L] France vs Islamic rebels in Mali

France jets are pounding northern Mali from the air as we speak.Last year it was in Libya and now it is in the northern Mali to halt the offensive by Islamic rebels. What role is Africa playing in this ?Some west African nations pledge to send troops to oust the rebels. Any idea if beloved Gambia will send troops. One would ask when will France intervene in Syria,Somalia and the Congos just to name a few of the hot spots in the world? It looks like France has taken the role of world Policeman. Our heart and prayers with our troops.
