Your take is noted YJ but I am looking more at the attitude of the Judiciary to the presumption of innocence in the context of pretrial detention.

Mambuary is not charged with any offence and yet subjected to the outrage of a D15 million bail bond. You are right that the South African Judiciary is fiercely independent.

If indeed Mambuaray was headed for the World Bank as suggested by some, he is unlikely to publicly say anything about Professor Jammeh so I think his detention was more vindictiveness than anything

LJD,

I am quite surprised that you are comparing the two situations. You as a legal mind probably knows better. For the heck of a debate, here is my take...

In south Africa, we do not have lawlessness like in the Gambia. Besides, Mamburay Njie was part of Jammeh's gang and he knows too much about Jammeh's regime to be freed. Jammeh has to keep him in jail, because once he escapes, he will be out talking about the regime. Doesn't that sound like it??

Happy friday!

Yero
