The book, he said, depicts the numerous development projects championed by the Jammeh administration. “I have discussed with him on how to put into writing some of the works he [President Jammeh] has been doing in this country which I am leading. There are books on the bookshelves about who he is and what he is. So I have brainstormed with him as to the possibilities of that happening and it looks like from what we discussed we are going to start putting things together and have a serious book on the president after 18 years. It is about time,” he remarked. He continued: “We are just going to do head and shoulder types of account of what he believes in and what makes him tick. Basically that is what we are going to look at and we are just beginning to look at it and we have agreed on how to go about that.” Johnson said he had written so many books before, including one on the former president of The Gambia, Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara. “I interviewed people who know him [the former president] and I also asked some other people about their reaction to who he is. If you have all the materials put together then you decide on how you are going to present the subject. If you read other biographies you will see that, that is the basic framework to start talking about somebody in books,” he added. When asked to disclose the time framework for the project, Johnson pointed out that they have just worked out an agreement and said he should be allowed to get back to his office and work on a time frame. “For that one you would have to wait,” he further stated. Grey Johnson also presented President Jammeh a book on Edward Francis Small, the architect of Trade Unionism and print journalism in The Gambia. Edward Francis Small, he said, was the one who organised the first political party in The Gambia in 1931. He further described him [Edward Francis] as a man, who deserves national attention.
