GAMWORKS awards President Jammeh

The Gambia Agency for the Management of Public Works (GAMWORKS) Thursday presented an award to the president of the Republic for his invaluable contribution towards the success of the Agency since its inception 18 years ago.

The award was received on behalf of His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh by the minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr Njogu L. Bah, who is also the secretary general and head of the Civil Service, during the official inauguration of GAMWORKS Headquarters along the Bertil Harding Highway, as part of events marking the country’s 48th Independence Anniversary.

In his inaugural speech, Minister Bah hailed president Jammeh for his enormous service towards the success of GAMWORKS, noting that it was achieved under the Gambian leader’s stewardship 18 years ago.

“GAMWORKS was created as a national institution for the implementation of development projects. At the beginning of its establishment, the Agency was mainly working withthe World Bank and the Gambia government, including the Public Works and Capacity Building Project and Poverty Alleviation and Capacity Building Project,” he remarked

The director general of GAMWORKS, Ebrima Cham, also hailed the president of the Republic for his sustained efforts and the trust he has bestowed on the Agency since its inception. He assured him [President Jammeh] of their strong partnership in ensuring the implementation of quality projects.

Also present at the occasion were Cabinet ministers, the speaker of the National Assembly, president of the African Association of Public Works, permanent secretaries, directors and other senior government officials.

Institutions such as the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the University of The Gambia (UTG), among a host of others were also awarded.
