Les internautes sont appelés à voter pour le “Net-citoyen de l’année”

Alors que plus de 2 milliards de personnes bénéficient d'un accès Internet dans le monde, un internaute sur trois n’a pas accès à un Internet libre et ouvert à tous en raison de la censure des gouvernements, de filtrage et de la surveillance en ligne. Près de 180 citoyens-journalistes, blogueurs et net-citoyens à travers le monde sont actuellement en prison, pour leurs activités d’information en ligne.

Pour soutenir leurs efforts, et à l’occasion de la Journée mondiale contre la cyber-censure, Reporters sans frontières et Google remettent chaque 12 mars le prix du Net-citoyen afin de sensibiliser le grand public à la nécessité de défendre la liberté d'expression en ligne. Depuis 2008, le Prix a rendu hommage à des journalistes, blogueurs ou net-citoyens ayant contribué à la défense de la liberté d’expression sur Internet.

Pour inciter les internautes à se mobiliser, le prix du Net-citoyen 2013 est pour la première fois soumis au vote du public.

Neuf “Netizens” ont été nominés par Reporters sans frontières. L’organisation a sélectionné, parmi les acteurs de l’information en ligne, des individus qui se sont distingués par des projets, enquêtes ou initiatives qui ont fait avancer la liberté d’information en ligne et sont susceptibles d’inspirer d’autres net-citoyens à travers le monde.

Du 27 février au 5 mars, les internautes pourront voter pour le ou la nominé(e) qui leur paraît le plus représentatif du combat pour la liberté d’information en ligne sur la chaîne Youtube de Reporters sans frontières (www.youtube.com/netizen2013).

Le lauréat ayant reçu le plus de votes sera annoncé le jeudi 7 Mars et invité à la cérémonie de remise du prix qui se tiendra à Paris le 12 Mars, dans les locaux de Google France.

Les nominés pour le prix du Net-citoyen 2013 sont : Itsmania Pineda Platero (Honduras), Cheikh Fall (Senegal), Oumarou Mohamed Lamine (Mali), Suren Gazaryan (Russia), Murat Tungishbayev (Kazakhstan), Assen Yordanov (Bulgaria), Huynh Ngoc Chenh (Vietnam), Mosireen (Egpyt), Shiva Nazar Ahari (Iran)

Two billion people worldwide now have Internet access but a third of them lack access to an Internet that is free and open to all because of government censorship, filtering and online surveillance. Around 180 citizen-journalists, bloggers and other netizens are currently in prison because of their online activity.

To support their efforts and to mark World Day Against Cyber-Censorship, Reporters Without Borders and Google award the Netizen Prize every 12 March with the aim of drawing the public’s attention to the need to defend online free expression.

Since 2008, this prize has been awarded to journalists, bloggers and other netizens who have made a distinguished contribution to the defence of freedom of expression on the Internet.

To stimulate online interest, the winner of the Netizen Prize will this year for the first time be elected by the Internet public, who are invited to cast their vote online.

Nine netizens have been nominated by Reporters Without Borders. We have chosen online news and information providers who have distinguished themselves through investigative reporting, projects or other initiatives which have helped advance online freedom of information and which are likely to inspire fellow netizens around the world.

From today until 5 March, Internet users can vote for the nominee they think best represents the fight for online freedom of information by going to the Reporters Without Borders YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/netizen2013).

The nominee who has received the most votes will be announced on 7 March. The winner will be invited to the award ceremony at Google France’s headquarters in Paris on 12 March.
