I think you mistaken to think that Yaya understudy Rawlins to prolong his uninvited stay. You should remember when Rawlins came to Banjul he publicly and emphatically told Yaya to hand over as soon as possible and Rawlins in fact introduced the term limit in the constitution.

The contrast that, the PPP made contact with the Nkrumah regime whilst the APRC also made contact with the Rawlings system is interesting. That Yahya Jammeh understudy Rawlings to prolong himself in power is an area worth looking into.
