There you go again Saiks. Let us now focus on strengthening the UN monitors in their effort to account-for and dismantle Assad's chemical, nuclear, and biological arsenal. No time to waste on stale argument.

 Haruna.

Kejau,

Did Assad ever said that he used it ? this is news for me. What I know is that there are evidence going around and even Russia did summit evidence to the UN with regards to Chemical weapon used by the rebels and even a UN inspector did say that it is very likely that the rebels used chemical weapon in Aleppo. No matter what, let all those who have chemical weapons and have been using it surrender it in the name of humanity, you just cannot justify the bombing of another nation in the name of morality when you your self use it more than any other nation, this is outright hypocrisy if you ask me. Well done Putin, let Assad hand over every thing and I hope he ,Putin ,follow this noble example and the US and Israel too.

Kejau,
Just what I thought. You like to throw red meat out there, but can't support your allegations with fact. Again, (and I am writing this slowly) who on this listserve is an Assad supporter?

Ousman,

No, you are the going going at me again. I was talking to Saiks, but if you supported Assad's lies, then you are included in Assad's betrayal of his supporters. I criticize western policies too, but I did not support Assad's lies about who used chemical weapons blindly.

Kejau
Here you go again making up stuff. Who are these phantom Assad supporters you alluded to. So critics of western policies are Assad supporters? Come on now.

Saiks,

It is good that Assad has seen the light and accepted that he indeed stores and used such weapons, contrary to what his supporters here believed.

Ron,

Thanks that Assad is willing to do so and I hope all the others will follow this great example.more so USA, Israel and Russia. There are no nation in this world that has used this inhuman and barbaric weapon more than the USA and Israel and I hope very much that they will follow the example of Assad.

Thanks cousin Haruna always for the thoughtful responses. You nailed them... and hope we see a quicker resolution on not only handing over weapons but yield to pressure for power transition.

Good night or should I say good morning..

How dramatic is the situation in Syria becoming in the very eyes of the World. As the US strike on Syria appears imminent in the last week or so, things are becoming more dramatic as the world watch with skepticism of another war... Syria is reportedly willing to surrender its Chemical weapons through its friend Russia... The questions are criss cross my mind are:

Did the rumors of imminent US attack threatened Asad enough for him to yield?

YES as it should any criminal.

Should the world take him and Russia seriously on this diplomatic solution that they resisted for all this time?

YES, and we should verify.

Why should it really get to this for Asad to realize that he needs to yield some power?

Because he had the sympathy of some of us.

Did he learn a lesson from the Wars of Iraq, Libya etc?

Criminals are never chastened by history.

I think the world is watching an interesting history unfolding... While Obama is clearly reluctant to take the US to another war, the war mongers are at it again and journalists are having a field day again...

This is called the symphony of humanity.

It is past time for Asad to realize that he can only buy time for a while but th at nothing can safe him except respect for the rights of his people, allow a more democratic process etc...

I concur Demba. For Assad and all other dynasties, tyrants, and dicmatators/bullies. "You thould ekthpect eferythin. This region has many acthorrs, playarrs, ijeologies. You thould ekthpect eferythin"

Lesson to learn is that Qaddafi gave up his weapons and yet he was only able to buy time for a short period.... The only language dictators understand is the very instrument they use against innocent people...

Thanks. Demba
Thanks for the reflection Demba.
