A simple kiss landed them in jail. Two Moroccan teenagers recently made the mistake of posting a picture of themselves kissing in front of their high school on Facebook. A local organisation in their town of Nador accused them of public indecency, and the couple and their photographer friend ended up spending several days in a juvenile detention centre.
The three teenagers were let out on October 7, but will have to go to court to face a judge next Friday. If found guilty, they face up to two years in jail. As they await their trial, Internet users have showed their support by posting photos of their own kisses, with the hashtag
#FreeBoussa (“free kiss”). An
online petition has also been created.
