Profound insights indeed. Many of us need to clean our windows in order to avoid seeing dirt where there is none. Thanks for sharing Hous.

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “One of you sees a speck of dirt in his brother's eye, and forgets the large spot of it in his own eye.” [Al-Jaami' as-Sagheer min Hadeeth al-Basheer an-Nadheer by Imaam As-Suyooti]

A young couple moved into a new neighbourhood. The next morning while they were eating breakfast, the young woman saw her neighbour hanging the laundry up to dry outside. “That laundry is not very clean,” she said. “She doesn’t know how to wash properly. Perhaps she needs better laundry detergent.”

Her husband looked on but remained silent. Every time her neighbour would hang her washing out to dry, the young woman would make the same comments.

Some time later, the woman was surprised to see nice clean laundry on the line and said to her husband: “Look, she has learned how to wash properly. I wonder who taught her.”

The husband said, “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows.”

If our windows are dirty we will see others as dirty too. What we see in others depends on the cleanliness of the lens through which we view them!

We tend to be concerned about others’ shortcomings while it is a characteristic of the Awwab that they are most concerned about the faults in themselves. The word Awwab is used in the Quran to describe the prophets Dawud, Sulaiman and Ayyub (alaihimus salam) and it means “one who always turns to Allah.”
