Ali:

I appreciate your rejoinder and thoughts on this piece.

You asked why the need to remind people of old information when the elder is not buried.

I can understand how that can make you react. Quite honestly, it is in line with celebrating the great Madiba. Madiba's greatness doesn't only stem from his strength. If there was any weakness he had, it still made him great. A clear example was the Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) household. I don’t know if you followed, but his household happenings (all of them) were put to people as a lesson for others to follow. Besides, if what is reported in that news article is accurate, it still makes the Madiba more heroic than anyone else would have thought. As to whether he should have forgiven Winnie, it is a matter of opinion. Given that he was able to forgive and reconcile South Africa with all the baggage that comes with Apartheid, there is nothing to say that his heart wasn’t big enough to forgive Winnie.

Yes, I am well aware of the code of conduct of the dead and the ancestry as you opined above are long since gone in my view.

On what this particular news paper might have contributed or should have done, I honestly have no idea and I hope my ignorance on that would be excused. My comments were solely centered on the divorce, why it happened and what the great Madiba could have done further about it. As nice or bitter that this divorce brought, it is a part of Mandela’s history; his greatness if you like.

Thanks again for rejoinder.

Best always,

Yero

Why the need to remind us of this old information before our Elder is yet to be buried ?

African cultural values have special codes as regards the dead.

We must drink deep in the well of africancentered traditional virtues before we offend  the spirits of the herioc Ancestors

Yes,instead of writing about the accelarating process of the 1990`s economic and financial meltdown that was affecting the majority of chicago`s citizens, they had the sameful audacity to write about Madela`s family.

IF The owners of the chicagotribune a cabudo of the global financial elite had not created  the racist south african regime and the oppressive system ,theie marriage would not have been subjected to great challenges.

just a humble reflection and advice

I feel saddened to follow about Mandela's divorse with Winnie. Many are of the view that he should have had the heart to forgive Winnie. It is a complicated situation. It makes Mandela even more heroic to stay on principle even to his private life.

Best,
Yero
