Our discussion on Kairo Radio on now is why and how our Independence did not lead to empowerment and people awareness. How and why PPP Sir Dawda and his government kill the fighting spirits of Gambians which make us all docile and spiritless in the thick of oppression. Jawara did not allow civil society to take roots and unions to survive in standing up for civil rights. Hence a coward like Yahya Jammeh is now behaving like a lion. PPP killed our spirit and Jawara intelligently crafted that strategy. Tune in www.kaironews.com or tunein Radio Kairo Gambia.
The dictatorship now will not have happen if Gambians maintain the fighting spirits at independence...Yahya Jammeh is surviving because we don't have the national spirit to stand up...The elites then crafted a looting mentality and hence, many angry people. Jammeh utilises those angry and frustrated Gambians to make him survive the early days, before he came up with his real agenda...Good men within the PPP were subtly silence and driven out, crocodiles and sharks came in destroy all hopes. the shambles at scholarship board, the unfairness and bankrupting of institutions etc...Civil Society became mere window dressing, Now we want to fight, all we can do now is chit chat, no temper to flare, back stabbing and betrayals is what gave birth to the lack of formidable civil society..The rule of law obedience isn't enough for Jawara to be blameless, he killed our fighting spirit. Upcountry elites became timid and complacent,,,independence brought some good, and PPP first ten years incredible, but alas...
