Mawdo Yero
Thanks for the kind words to our two eminent 'learned' scholars. Both brother Lamin J Darboe and Dr Momodou Sallah perform beyond our expectations. LDJ is as good with the written words as with the speech. His presentation was amazing, whilst Dr Sallah was indeed innovative with his approach to addressing the children. He was informal with them, he made them laugh whilst at the same time providing valuable advises and instructions. It was a rich event with men, women, guest, all in fine colours, in the usual Gambian humour, we will from now on undertake the celebration every year.
Dr Sallah brought along his two sons, they played and interact with our local children all evening. Such is our intentions. Our children are innocent of all our mad adult world, hence we should work hard in making them understand live in the West, the meanings of our independence, and certain social issues they struggle with.
It was a pleasure meeting both gentlemen and having to chat with them, they are both down to earth, simple and entertaining, so the 'Dr' titles did not change the brothers, laugh at that. The Gambia Association Coventry was honoured to our two fine men from our own community, we have to celebrate what good in us. My highest regards to both brothers. Thanks Yero

LJD & Momodou –

Since no one wants to be addressed as Doctor (Dr.), from Baba Galleh, to Momodou, to LJD, etc…, I will just stick with the fond part of the names going forward. If I knew the author of the piece, I would have given him a heads-up signal on that. Let’s just say the Dr. will be given to the Professor Jammeh of Gambia fame since he is the only one obsessed with titles, crowns, awards and all the world accolades ever known. Anyway, good on humility and being on the right side of history. You all know that I am missing Haruna. No one has said anything to that.

Humor aside, good on you guys for this mighty gathering in London. I have no doubts that both of you will fully represent. I think this is an opportunity to engage citizens and encourage their participation in Gambia’s democracy that is shamefully spiraling to nothing. It is a shame that after 49 years of self-rule that we are still dealing with such intolerant and criminal-minded leader like Jammeh. The recent independence speech in Banjul was horrible. One is tempted to ask: Does Gay/lesbians have anything to do with our independence? What connection does this have to our independence? Mighty Jammeh was quoting ‘The Economist Magazine’ as having rated the Gambia as the most stable, thus: “On the eve of this year’s independence anniversary The Economist Magazine has ranked The Gambia among the most stable countries in the world and such a feat must never be taken for granted but should propel all of us to stand firm in unity to safeguard and preserve it for posterity. With the Almighty Allah on our side we can always achieve higher heights” (Yaya Jammeh, 02/18/2014).

I want to side with a piece I read on Freedom that the man is trying to kiss off to the Arabs by thinking that he can gather some coins from them. To this, I say what shame! Jammeh is quoting from the Economist Magazine. It shows the desperate mindset in his head for anything of praise for him to hang onto. The economist magazine is not close to being the best appraiser. Gambians are. How about us? Have he considered the F-grade we scored him?

It doesn’t take one to be a political scientist to know that a new dawn is fast approaching at the corner. I have never being this much convinced in my life about it. We see the reaction of a man whose bed is full of bugs and those bugs has eaten him to his skull. We are seeing him yell, cry, limp and even throw himself to the ground. With the recent press release from US state Department, it sends Jammeh to hell. That is exactly what I expected for a long time the US will do. It is for Gambians to nurture very soon a new environment that is going unite the nation, heal the wounded hearts and move the country forward.

In anyway, you guys probably are already set in your tones and speeches. I wasn’t writing to influence it, but just wanted to thank you all for representing. We look forward the written speeches or extended coverage by our other comrades keeping a sharp eye in that sphere of the world.

Best,

Yero.
