You mean someone did not tell Netty Baldeh that there is no “sukuro” in this “monor”! That you don’t use your National Assembly sitting to “ condemn the European Union parliament “ one day and the next day go dine and drink “attaya” with them at their expense!  Kudos to him though for sensing that there is indeed ‘food-for-thought” in this madness.  High time he and his colleagues behave like patriots who put country first.

GAMBIA’S PARTICIPATION RESTRICTED AT ACP-EU JOINT PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLY, As country is in arrears

The National Assembly delegation to the 35th session of the African, Caribbean Pacific-EU joint parliament reported that they were told by the ACP Secretariat that The Gambia is in arrears with their Statutory Contribution. This was revealed on Wednesday, 9 April, 2014 by Hon. Netty Baldeh, Member for Tumana and head of the delegation during the presentation of the delegation’s report.

 

According to Hon. Baldeh, the Gambia's membership rights and privileges are being restricted and that the Gambia’s Ambassador could not have the floor at the Council meeting of the ACP Ambassadors.

He said the Gambia’s Parliamentary delegation from henceforth would not be able to have the floor or vote in plenary or committee meetings of the ACP - EU JPA or ACP - PA. He also said that the ACP - EU would not finance the cost of their delegation’s participation to ACP - EU JPA; and related Meetings. Hon. Baldeh appealed to both the Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs to resolve these outstanding payments.

 

Continuing his report, the head of the parliamentary delegation said there is so much "Food-for-thought" in the Report, as it is informative. He told his colleagues that they should find time and review and better understand the issues at play in the International arena particularly on the ACP - EU Relations, the MDGs Post 2015, the WTO - Post Bali, the Cotonou Agreement and 11th EDF.

Hon. Alhaji Sillah, Member for Banjul North and also a member of the delegation, seconded the report. In his contribution, he attacked what he referred to as the “double standards” in the international arena. In his intervention, Hon. Demba B.T. Sambou, National Assembly Member for Niani, said in order for the voices of the delegation to be heard, arrears with international bodies should be settled.
