This year marked an important way forward towards building a fairer world for men and women.  We kicked off the year with a year-long celebration ahead of

the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 2015. This platform provided the framework to help countries devise public policies to push gender equality forward. We can see substantial progress being made across different fields but it is very apparent that building a fairer world requires more equality and we are still in need of combined efforts to open the door to Women’s Empowerment. The way forward is through: Education, Work and leadership.

Education is the foundation upon which change is built, learning helps women to help themselves and break the shackles of exclusion. Nowhere is this more essential than in the developing world.

The second way forward is through work: It is only through participation in work that women can flourish and achieve their true potential.

The third way forward is through decision making and leadership: enabling women to rise and fulfil their innate abilities and talents.

There are many inequities and inequalities that we must conquer in political, economic and social realms and as we fast approach the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration we hope that everyone would play their part in making Women’s Empowerment a reality.
