Burama,

The pictured is Bojang, the speaker of the NA, so he is both a victim (even if willing and conspiring victim) and the facilitator, as a lawmaker.

The Gambia's lameduck National Assembly controlled by the ruling APRC party passed a bill imposing life sentences for repeated gay offenders as well as for 'aggravated' offences such as for those living with HIV/AIDS, last month. The bill , which is yet to received Presidential signature, but has as usual, only been voted against by two opposition national assembly members. This came about as a boycott by the major opposition in the last elections.

In a nation, where the president and other political leaders often issue grave anti-gay rants, even on world stage. President Jammeh went on to the world stage in the UN last year, describing gays as vermins more deadly then the tsunamis and earth quakes and went on to say that gays are a threat to human existence.

Prior to passing this bill, gay related offenders could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison and in 2005, the criminal code had been amended to include lebians.  18 gay men were arrested and charged with homosexual offences and Jammeh had previously gone on state TV threatening to cut the heads off any gays found in The Gambia.

Gambia's economy depends heavily on taxation, tourism as well as on aid from EU and USA, some of whose tax payers are gays.

Gambia is a predominantly muslim country and even though Islam treats gays the same way as it treats promiscuity, many Gambians uses religion to justify human right abuses against gays and lesbians and the leadership has not help. The president has constantly and consistently misrepresented the demands by the EU for more observation of human rights, as demands to iintroduce gay rights in the isolated West African nation. He has successfully used this  mispresentation to garner support for his constant bashing the EU and as well as perpetuating human rights abuses on his political opponents.

About the war college, it is another name for staff college, the military's highest training college and nothing special, by the way.

Jammeh has long ago disregard the normal military code of conduct. He do as he see fit and to cause division and mistrust among the army which serves him better. The key news is war college. The man seems to be preparing for anything to safeguard his power. Thanks

Thanks Suntou for sharing. But my God, Jarju has about 6 years in the army and he is a Colonel already and gone to Senior Staff College, whilst Papou, though with over 20yrs in the army, he was a regimental sergeant major and should never have anything more than a Lt. Colonel.
What is happening in the armed forces now?
